Now I am a Chicago Great Lakes sailor and hoping to start CS-17 Hull # 93 this spring if I get my bonus. My daughter wants to attend Loyola University, so money for outside projects is tight. :? Lots of Chicago people come over here to get out of the city. I understand the money thing. In my case my wife won't let me spend the mortgage money on boats :cry: Just kidding. Well, ok, she won't let me..... Good picture. Do you miss sailing around San Diego? Lake Michigan is like a bathtub. No islands to play around...at least on the south end. Quote
Spinnaker55 Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 Greg, What I miss the most is being able to sail pretty much year round. And the Marina I sailed out of there. I was out every weekend, and since the Marine Corps ran the marina I could rent for way less than owning. Now I am retired from the Marine Corps, but still have to work, and between work, the weather, and no boat I only got out twice last season. Thus the reason for building my own boat. I could buy, but this way when I am done the boat will be paid for, and the CS-17 offers no compromises in meeting my sailing needs. Every commercial boat had trade-offs. I wish I could take 3 months off to do the build. I love being back in Chicago and the midwest, but I wish the season was a little longer. Quote

Steve Day Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Hey guys, I am down at Guantanamo Bay on a visit with my mother-in-law, who is visiting as a VIP for Cuban-American Friendship Day. My Father-in-Law was Base Commander down here during the water crisis in 1964 and is much loved by the Cubans on the base and the military personnel serving here. We had a little personal time this morning, so we went sailing in a Hunter 306 for a couple of hours and just got back. Great sail! :D Temperature was about 80 degrees and wind was about 10 knots from the north. Bay was absolutely beautiful. The photo that accompanies my notes was taken on my sailboat in Point Clear, AL. Unfortunately, by the time I cropped it down to get out on the site, you can't see any of the sailboat. :cry: I really enjoy seeing pictures of the participants in the forum. Keep them coming. The only down side to the trip down here is that I will have to go back to cold country. I'll be back in Nebraska on Sunday :cry: Steve Quote
