I agree with you about the loops in the clew not needing a bungee, with one exception.  When you go to reef the sails, the loop will probably slip off the tip of the sprit.  This is why you may need a bungee.

 

And in that same post you mentioned relocating the main to the center mast step.  I’ve not done that, because the mizzen mast would be in the way of the relocated main’s sprit.  But I have relocated the mizzen several times.  This is how I reefed the sails on my Bay River Skiff.  I don’t recommend relocating masts in open water, but it is a very effective way of “reefing” a boat that has sails without reef points.

True about reefing I would think it would hold better.
