I've been looking for a way to incorporate a unique statement below each forum's index page since December, and no one has done it before, so I wrote the code myself. Well, I borrowed the concept from another guy, but he was using images not text. OK, so its not entirely original ... And its not a boat. I could be building my Spindrift instead of working on the floors and web site ... I like the eagle, though! Very classy. Quote

I have thought I would put a figure head on my boat when I build it. I want one of a lady with those big "what do you call its" on her like was on the old ships. Tell you mom she can be proud. Johannah Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 Your mum's carving is great, O mighty captain. Now I'm going to have to spruce up Ron's eagle so it doesn't feel dowdy by comparison. The paint has greyed, maybe from resins in the wood? Our sign painting buddy, Roger, got me all fired up about gilding her, but shows no signs of immediate action, so we may touch up her paint this year. Maybe gild the beak? Quote

That eagle looks really good there, and it integrates perfectly with the end of the stem. I was thinking of making something like that for our boat. Was the eagle carved separately and added later or was the head part of the keel assembly, only extended? I'm still planning on a figurehead for Svenska Flicka, but want to do a blonde lady instead of a bird. I figure it makes more sense, given the boat name. Quote

Ever since I made my stem I have been thinking of adding one. Probably not before launch though. Yours fits into the boat real well and is a great finishing touch. Nice trailboards too. Quote

Launch first, add the baubles later. My kind of guy! 8) Now, Capt Jake has a problem ... his boat is so pretty, he may not want to sail her. If his new living room is big enough, he might make her into a permanent display. She is pretty enough, that's for sure. What's Capt. Jake going to do when the first seagull sees her, and dips a wing to do a fly-over :?: :twisted: Of course, this is "build a workboat" jealousy speaking. We all recognize quality when we see it.
