Is Raleigh / Durham to far south for you? I have one that needs a new home. It would need a new sail. Other than that it’s complete.

I was one of the fortunate folks to build my Spindrift in Graham's class. I don't have the plans. I benefited from using a jig, templates and serious assistance from Graham, Tom Lathrop and many, many others. I like the idea of rigging up thole pins and trying to find the best position. There is a specialty lumber supplier in my town. I might be able to find clear and straight spruce - premium prices, but they might be available.

I am considering the addition of some oar locks on my Spindrift 10. Anybody have information on where to position them? As in how far forward from the stern, or do I figure out how far my arms reach? I've no clue where to position them.

Thanks for posting up all of the information and pictures. They are such a beauty of boat. I have been interested in seeing one go together.

I plopped into one with my wife. I weigh @ 240. My wife won't tell me her weight. So, I guess, I can't really help. Well, she weighs at least 120. She laughed at me when I guessed at that number and said "I wish".

Unfortunately for me the jug leaked onto the stack of plywood that had been cut out for another Moccasin. I'm not the expert, but I don't think this wood will glue up.

Bear Creek - saw them moving a boat done I-540 in Raleigh NC just this week. I thought the hull looked like an Ocracoke. They did a beautiful job on that boat.

She is a beautiful boat - can't wait to see the pictures as she goes together.

On mounted two blocks on the inside of the canoe mounting the seat frames on top. My build sheets had the measurements included.

I've had a smaller Bosch ROS for a few years. I liked the Bosch and the other Bosch tools I've used. I recentyl used a Porter Cable ROS - one slighty larger than my Bosch. The Porter Cable was a hands down winner over the Bosch. I have no experience with the Fientool's products. I suspected that the dust collection technology has advanced quite a bit since my 15 to 20 year old Bosch came one the market. The vibration felt in my hands was much better with the Porter Cable. The Bosch always leaves my hand tingling for a few minutes The Porter Cabel did not.

The gunwales on my first moccasin went on fine during the layup with PVC pipe clamps.

My part of NC - @ 150 miles from the coast did not get any rain. We have a little cloud cover and some breeze. We could have used the rain.

My copy hasn't showed up yet. I went to Barnes and Nobles and bought one. Great article. Great picture of both Graham and Carla.

I am hanging out this week in Boyne Falls. I wasn't able to bring either my Canoe or Spindrift 10. From my first look at the area, I missed a good chance to sail and paddle a nice area.

The weight appears to be under 65 pounds. That came from a unofficial bathroom scale.

I do not know what the designed weight should be - but the existing weight may be obtainable. I do think that me and the boat might exceed the bathrooms scale max - and that is the only quick way to get the weight of the boat that comes to mind. As to the photo album - it shows everything - mistakes included.

As part of painting the newly constructed Moccasin, I decided to repaint my Spindrift 10 that was built around 1990. I had noticed some checking (I think that is what it is called) in the paint. As I was sanding down the paint it became apparent that the checking went into the Okoume plywood. This is not the first repainting job on the boat. It appears that when doing the previous paint jobs the epoxy coating the hull may have been removed. I don't think it was removed during this sanding. It was built using West System Epoxy and painted with Petite Easypoxy. The paint is bonded really well to the epoxy. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to handle this repair? Should I sand the hull paint back completely and recoat with epoxy? Or try to removed the paint with a stripper - then recoat with epoxy? Or can I sand back the paint on the checked areas and then recoat with epoxy? Or is the some other solution that I am missing? The reality is that I repainted the halls the same color. The kids had beat the walls up and I couldn't stand to look at it anymore.
