Every post that you make, I admire your craftmanship. I actually took a trip to West Marine today with the intention of buying paint for the bottom and outside of the hull. The salesman actually talked me out of buying any paint that they cary. I am most interested in finding information about this "System Three" paint or others people have successfully used on their trailer sailers. Can you point out a websight with information about this paint?

Congratulations Graham and Fred! A grand adventure indeed. This event has kept us all on pins and needles between checkpoint postings. As exciting as it has been for us watching on the web, I know the real excitement was in south Florida. I too can't wait to read about your adventure sometime in the futrue.

Foam, no foam, either or both. Training and supervision are the key with kids. I agree with the teach them how to right the boat in shallow water. Make them do it over and over.

Sounds like a grand adventure! I think it is a good idea putting in twin sweeps for this race. Good luck to you!

Does anyone make a paint or similar finishing coating with graphite or what would happen if you added the graphite powder to the paint you finished the boat with? I know the paint would have to be black, but this way you would have the graphite in the last coating and UV protection. Only thing is, would it work?

After all consideration, I think as I am going to be trailing and using either the lace luff or sleeve luff sails, I will go with the 3 piece as designed also. My concerns about wobble seem unfounded.

Not having constructed my masts yet I am not speaking from experience, but I would think the masts could be made to come apart. This may lead to some wobbly joints down the road as the joints wear with repeated removal. On the disk I purchased with my plan set there was a picture of a CS17 which had extensions made from pvc pipe which could be inserted into the mast steps and hold the masts horizontal while stored. He would put a tarp over the masts and make a tent for boat storage. I think it was Gordy Hill's boat which is for sale now. I am sure you could probably find pictures of this boat on the forum from a long time ago. I thought this was a very clever way to store the masts and boat.

Thanks for the aditional pics. I had seen your previous post and felt sure the setup was as you depicted for the seat hatch drains. This helps tremendously.

I too have yet to make my mast tubes. I was wondering if applying a lubricant to the mast before wrapping with the builders plastic would help remove it after curing. Would their be adverse effects from this?

That is just about where I am with CS 17 #113. Unfortunately I don't have a temperature controlled workshop so I can't do much with epoxy until about the end of march (thank god for short GA winters). Do you have some detail on the seat hatches? That is something I am still working on and would like to see how everyone else does them.

Scott You are going to have a very nice boat when you get done. Isn't progress exciting. I have not had time to move my cs17 forward much since winter has come along. I am still hoping for a spring launch.

I just use dish soap and water. Clean it up with a sponge and rinse with clear water. Dry thoroughly. If you don't get rid of the blush, I understand it can cause your next coat to not cure properly.

You are making good progress. The bulkhead door sounds like an interesting idea. Can't wait to see your pictures.

Thanks, I have done several searches on line and turned up nothing. I will try to find a local boat dealer.

Where does one look to purchase a new boat trailer?

Maybe just get a plastic box that will fit in there. Then you could take it out and not have any impediment to circulation. I have some dry bags used for canoeing and rafting that will fit almost anywhere and do not let things slide around.

I agree with captain Jake. Since my divorce I have been doing better financially, spiritually, and emotionally. Not to mention I can now build boats.

Yep, you got it. Just build another boat. One more a little biggger, one a little better, and oh yeah one of those strip canoes just for grins.
