Ravenswood and another Curlew

I just received my first order for a Kudzu kayak, a Curlew. I have also found a kayak outfitter who is willing to display a boat for me and see if we can sell them. It seems the general public likes 15 footers with pointy ends so my display model will be a Ravenswood. This crumby economy has kept me from my normal means of employment so it is time to mix several means of making money and building kayaks and maybe other small craft will be part of it. B & B designs will certainly be promoted as the top design choice for sailboats and powerboats, though I will build any design a customer requests.

That does look nice. I like the the pointed stern also. It is the only place on the curlew that I thought would look better if it was pointed instead of rounded.

Finished the Curlew for a customer. Not the colors I would choose, but they work and it isn't for me. I like the boot stripe, but next one will be the same color as the deck.

I think I like the photos taken on my deck rail. They show the hull shape well. I will try to start a new category called PORT (photos on rail top)

Thanks. My shop? Ha ha, I would love to have a proper shop. I have to settle for a 1 car garage for my tool and equipment area and my basement for assembly and painting. I am painting the Ravenswood now. I should have pictures by the week end.

Finished the Ravenswood. Now waiting for the rain to stop to deliver it to the outfitter for display.

Sweet looking boat! Is that a rub rail or painted stripe on the side?

Thanks Jeff. It is a painted cove stripe, same color as the deck. I painted the deck and rolled over onto the hull first. Then masked the deck and cove stripe and rolled the hull. The tape was 3/4" and cut on the angle fore and aft. Simply removed the masking and the stripe appears. Makes adding a stripe fast and simple.

Hmm, a varnished wooden rub rail? I don't think a kayak needs one, but it might just look really nice. Something to consider.

I assumed it was painted but you never know. People do odd things to my boats! :-)

I won't be adding a rub rail to any of my kayaks but I could see it you paddled somewhere where you were bumping the gunwale into a dock, boat or something else it could be a good idea.

Beautiful builds. I have a feeling that the folks in RI will go nuts over your boats. You know, on a pretty boat like the Ravenswood, a thin .25 in walnut or cherry rub rail might just add a neat bright finish touch. It is amazing how Jeff's boats catch the eye of people going by in a campground.

Your Ravenswood looks great. I am waiting for the materials to start mine. I have a question about the frame pictures shown in your June 22 post. The chine stringers at the bow seem to just end in mid-air. They do not appear to be beveled and fastened flush to the bow piece. Why is that?
