sscoville Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I found my mizzen sheet saturated in gas yesterday. I've soaked it in baking soda and water, dish soap and water, and laundry detergent and water. I did the second 2 before wring it out and the baking soda and water after wringing it out. Then, I let it dry out today. It still smells of gas. Anyone have any suggestions? I was going to wash it once more. The gas came from a bad connection on a portable tank. A fairly nasty mess. From what I've found online, I've done the right things so far. Quote
hokeyhydro Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Febreze??? Might try a citrus based cleaner. Pour-n-Restore is kind of thick but I've used it on oil/grease spots on concrete and it just sucked it all up. Quote

Spread a little kitty litter (about an inch deep) in a box, then loosely lay the line in the litter, then cover the line with more kitty litter. Leave it for a week and it'll probably be fine. Of course you can also just toss the line in a potato sack, tie it off then a few cycles in the washing machine. Quote

BARRYFOY Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 My standard way of cleaning rope and lines: Enclose them into a mesh laundry bag, and put them through the heavy duty wash cycle. Drape them in the air to dry. Remove or wrap any metal shackles first. Worked even for dock lines "stored" in the bilges. Quote
