isaac
hi everyone ! Im new to this form and thinking about building a weekender or somthing simalar? I live in newfounland canada and want a boat for exploring the bay's and maybe up the labradour coast or hoping across the pond ! I like the weekender looks its pretty much a dory with a cliper bow and a bit of a keel! what would happen if I added 2 feet and wait to the keel ?? is there any one here who has had a weekender out off shore ? cheers isaac
PAR
The Weekender isn't well suited to rough water or unprotected sailing areas. There are many reasons for this and a few feet added to her will not fix it. Weight on the keel of this boat just diminishes capability, which is limited as it is. If you want an off shore design, you should get one, because the Weekender is a puddle puppy, nothing more.
Hirilonde
The Weekender is a cute boat for nostalgic people. But I am glad to see Paul hasn't held back in his response to the safety aspects of the boat for any use beyond day sails on very protected waters on very nice days. Frank Hagan
Yeah, I loved my Weekender, but we bought a production boat for our coastal cruising here in So Cal. The Weekender is fine for what it is, but you sail it more like you would a dinghy, and its not an off shore kind of boat.
