ScottWidmier Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 My kids and are are building two mouse-boats which are 8' V bottom prams. Small enough for the kids to be able to paddle as kayaks but large enough that I can climb on one and use it. Mouse-boats are distributed as free plans by Gavin Atkin via Duckworksmagazine.com. They have a V bottom giving better ride in the water and a bit more shape to the bow and stern that the brick or Puddle Duck racer. This just makes them look a little better IMHO and move better through the water. Not any harder to build either given my perspective of having built mouseboats and a puddle-duck. I have modified the kids by adding a leeboard and going with a lateen rig. I plan on bringing them this weekend for Bud's Nickajak messabout if you can make it. Quote

They seem to go together pretty quickly, unless you're me, in which case you only finish the centerboard! Quote

I don't know, Frank. That may have been part of my problem with the Weekender. I would probably be better off only having what I need at the time. (Not allowing myself the fun of buying more goodies until I finish whatever stage it is that I'm working on.) Not to mention The Nebraska Peanut Gallery. If this project ever gets off the ground, I'm sure I'll have THAT to look forward to... Sigh... Again. : If this project ever gets off the ground, It will probably be just me building one in the hopes that it will spark enough interest in one of the other guys, and make them want one too. I think I'll order 8-Ball plans, the next time I have a few extra bucks. Anyone have any experience with this design, thoughts on it, or Glen-L boats in general? I have a couple of their plans in my collection of "someday" projects, but no 8-Ball. Quote
