rigging a Spindrift 10

I think my last post got lost, somehow...

I have just about finished the hull and am trying to figure out how to rig the sail I have the reefing sail from Graham.

Near the downhaul point there is a block and a couple grommets next to it. I can see how the downhaul would run through the block, but what are the grommets for?

Also, at the outhaul there are a couple small lines attached to the sail seams and end with what looks like a jam cleat? Can anyone give me an idea what they too are for?

I will try to post photos here to show what I am looking at...

The grommets are redundant, just ignore them.

The reefing line runs from the port side of the boom aft up through the aft reefing grommet to a cheek block aft on the starboard side of the boom, then to another cheek block at the forward end of the boom, then to the block on the sail and down to a block at the base of the mast and to the cleat in the cockpit.

I suspect Graham didn't note the second question- those are leech lines. The purpose is to tighten the foot and leech to stop chattering. On a new sail you'll most likely leave them slack. As the leech ( and foot) stretches a bit over time, you can then tighten them JUST enough to stop the edge from chattering or fluttering, ( and no more)

Hmm, wouldn't the one for the foot be called a foot line?

The end of the 8'-6" boom extends 12 inches beyond the grommet at the clew when I pull the sail foot real tight. Seems like more than enough for the outhaul...or maybe too much? I haven't mounted any hardware on the boom yet.

This photo shows my S11N in light wind. I'm sure the rigging for yours is similar. The boom does extend a good deal beyond the clew, maybe not 12" but close. My boom is also 8'-6" so maybe yours may be a little long.

If I was to rivet the gooseneck to the mast, would 3/16" aluminum pop rivets be OK? I can't seem to find SS pop rivets anywhere...
