Norman Colter Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 G'day all, Been having far too much fun. Got her safely rolled and leveled. Main and mizzen mast tabernacles made and installed. Cabin aft bulkhead installed. Deck knees in, and cabin carlins. Seatback carlins too. Scarfed a three foot piece onto an eight then ripped it down the middle and the foredeck ply at the sametime. Cabin sides cut and dry fit. Seatbacks installed. Centerboard tackle purchased and beginning to be installed. Here's some pics. Norm Quote

Has the P22 build been easier or more difficult than you thought it would be? Have you been keeping up with your hours? Quote
Norman Colter Posted October 5, 2007 Author Posted October 5, 2007 Thanks for the kind words. First boat. Been at it for 15 months now. Trying to do a little something every day. I learned long ago that if you really want something you have to work at it. So I don't find time, I make time. I studied the plans for years, and read several boat building books. So far things have been progressing pretty smoothly. Biggest challenge was lead keelballast. Most fun so far was painting the bottom When I started construction I set a hopeful completion date. July 4 2008. Guesstimating that I'd need 1000 hours. 10 hours a week for two years. I think I'm going to make it. Norm Quote

I just got finshished applying a second coat of epoxy on the hull of my little minicup. One more coat and I will set it in the water to check for leaks. If none it will be time to attach the deck. Howard Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Good progress Norm. Fun it is! On the fore and aft plank on top of the cabin beams, on early photos, that plank looks to be laying on top of the cabin beams like it was to be inset flush into the beams. In your last photo, you can see the bottom of the plank, making it look like the ends of the beams may be chopped off and notched into the side of that top cabin plank. Just curious how it goes together. I would think for the decking to lay flush, the top of the plank and deck beams would also have to be flush. Quote

Norman Colter Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 The cabin beams and the center plank are flush. The hatch frame is there. I made the cabin beams by laminating three layers of 3/8 ply in a jig to give me the curve. Then notched them to the cabin sides and the center. It hasn't been warm enough to epoxy, but the ply is screwed down and it holds my 200+ without deflecting. The plan is to cut the hatch and companionway after epoxy. Norm Quote
