Frank Hagan Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 We have new forum software here at messing-about.com ... mainly because maintenance was starting to become a huge hassle with the old software. Updates were taking me half a day because the spammers and hackers were getting so proficient against the old software. So this is a bit different, and some of the importing had some "kinks" ... signatures are sometimes huge, but I'll get that fixed (if you're inclined to fix yours yourself, go into your profile and remove the [ size=9 ] and [ /size ] tags from your signature). The "last read" pointers are also off ... to fix them all, open each forum in turn and click the little "Mark Read" button at the top of the forum index page. A spell checker is coming ... it will be installed tomorrow. Quote

The conversion routine figured those people were "special" and made them members of the "Weekender, Skipjack" group (if those were their boats). So I ended up with about 80 different membergroups that didn't have the right permissions. So that was a relatively easy fix. Quote

I noticed in the articles forum the links to the original posts are broken. Maybe the forumites can locate the originals again and tell you where they are. That thread has info about that issue ... but it should have been a problem with the prior Forum software as well. If you "white listed" messing-about, the URL has changed slightly to http://www.messing-about.com/forums/ ... note the "s" in there at the end of "forum". Quote

However, it looks like I can just convert the old bookmarks to the new format. I also looked at the "Cartop Carrier" thread and was able to see those drawings from Garry. I am using Firefox 2.0.0.4. I didn't look any further. I'll be checking to see if I can translate them on the fly through a redirect. You can actually dump the decimal and the zero, and it will still work. I'm not sure what the deal is with the pics ... I think its a "permissions" problem, because they are there for me. If so, that's an easy fix (if I can find it in the configuration, that is!) Quote
