that is magnificent, and is a lovely solution to the boom crutch problem, just lash the boom to the top of the taffrail.

A contrary voice here- while the work looks to be well done, I personally think the rail is way over heavy for the small stern of a Weekender- just looks clunky back there- too high and the spindles are too big.

He's also gonna be wishing he had filled and sanded all those screw heads before he added the rub rails, and that he had finished the bottom prior to doing all that- gonna be a tough chore to flip the boat with all that on there, without doing any damage.

I respect Charlie's opinions but while I agree with Charlie about the problems with flipping the boat, I do not think it looks oversized or too heavy for the boat. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder in this case. It does add weight to the aft end of the boat and will have some effect on balance, so maybe Charlie is right? Still it is cool 8) looking.

Is that plywood being used just an exterior grade?

Did you note that he raised the cabin height by 6 inches? This affects balance too. I wonder if he is going to offset that by more ballast on the outside of the keel?

I am thinking that it would not be too much trouble to reach over that taffrail to handle the motor. Most of the time on my boats I just adjust the throttle and steer with the rudder. The Weekender/Vacationer is a small boat compared to some of the factory boats. I am probably not understanding the geometry since I have never actually seen these boats.

Gallows? Like for hanging something?

My mount is fixed and when sailing, the motor powerhead tilts up over the after deck. The Vac stern freeboard is less than 20" so if not tilted all the way up the foot drags in the water.
