portholes? deck prisms? paper weights? coasters?

I know this doesn't happen to any of you, but I've been accumulating a large number of neat round disks of semi-transparent epoxy as a result of many careful and deliberate experiments to determine how much heat epoxy can generate if it kicks off in the mixing container. I am left wondering what use can be made of these, since I have sunk considerable investments in their manufacture.

I used to show them off to friends and family (e.g. "see how clear this stuff is? See how this hammer barely makes a dent in it?"), especially when my wife was having doubts about sailing in a stitch&glue boat. Later I seriously considered imbedding a couple in the deck to light the lazarette and forepeak -- but was worried about making more large holes in my plywood.

People are beginning to talk, saying I might not be making these things deliberately, but as a result of carelessness and repeated miscalculation (perish the thought). I need to justify my work! Ideas, anyone?

JeffM I can make a suggestion about those disk, as I have made some of them myself even one with a new paint brush in it. First leave your shop unlocked and unatended for a hour or two. Go to the hardware store or to get a beer any thing like that taking the disk with you in a trash bag. Throw the disk in a dumpster and return to the shop when you return wait a few min. and descover the disk are gone. Then reise caine about some one being in your shop and getting your disk that you have spent all that time and money on. Works for me Y'ALL COME Cap'N Bud. :wink:

Must be a New England thing. Havn't experienced that as yet in my working with epoxies. :roll:

I did discover that since the epoxy is heat sensitive, all you have to do is heat it up and it softens right up. You could try softening it and pressing it into other more useful shapes. Ball, hocky puck, the list is endless. :wink:

But grog doesn't require coasters. ;) At least I never let one sit around that long (past tense).

Of course, after a few pints of grog, they might sound good as wind chimes!

We could have a contest on who ended up with the most by the end of the build. I have at LEAST 6 circles with various items sticking out of them and about a half full paint tray that had a...hum...bad day in the sun :roll:

Some of mine when mixed with wood flower actually looked like the dog had a accident, the runny stuff. My wife was not amused when I placed one of these creations on her new carpet and sat back to watch her reaction when she walked in the door :twisted: .
