Source of supply for large block and tackle

I have been calling around locally to find block and tackle that would use 5/8 or 3/4 rope. As we say in Texas, it has been a dry hole. Many do not even know what I am asking for at which point I try describing pulleys, sheaves, etc. I want the kind that were used years ago for moving large heavy things around.

Any suggestions (short of making my own)?

Dang Gregg, I ran accross a set complete with rope last week. I can't remember which place it was at now. As I am under the weather, I will not be going out for a while to look. I think it was at a garage sale in the country.

Ok, and how does that help? :? Nothing for rope block and tackle that I see. Am I missing it?

Well I went to that site and nosed around and found a number of ROPE blocks including snatch blocks, sources of rope etc..

CROSBY a big name in rigging supplies is listed and has a web site hilighted in those pages too.

If you are looking for a ready made block and tackle that rigging house may just be able to help you too.

I was at the Crosby site before but it looks like wire cable stuff. How can the difference been told? I am discovering that just telling suppliers that I want a double sheave block for 5/8 to 3/4 rope does not mean much to them. I have seen hundreds of the rope block & tackles over the years and they all looked pretty much the same....where in the heck did those come from and where did they all go? Like the one I provided the link to. This is way more complicated than it aught to be :shock:

I was surprised that none of the local auto parts suppliers have any chain hoists for sale either. It would not work for me, but I asked anyway to see what response was given. The world has changed again and I missed it I guess.

I lose patience with web sites that bury stuff 10 levels or more deep and do not have a very good or none at all search engine. When I realized you pursued it and finally were able to locate the blocks, I was encouraged. Unfortunately, they do not list prices anywhere that I have found, nor availability, which to me means they are not really able to handle web based business. Since I have not found one and it is now Saturday night I am going to call the place I found in Illinois on Monday and just give up on getting the job done this weekend. Should you come across a real web based business I would love to know about it. At least I now know where to special order the blocks. Thanks for your help and patience.

You might just try E-Bay. I found 37 items listed under block and tackle. One I noticed uses 1/2 inch rope.

I found one on Ebay, won the bid, for about $68 including shipping. I have bid on another one too, but it does not end until tomorrow sometime.
