Crew is anyone minding the boat's master and their own safety too....crew is anyone from organic, moving, ballast (as a skipper friend described me on his racing boat) to the boat's master. In truth I have only sent the two youngest, Sam and Ben, below to protect them from the 10 foot chop at the river's mouth when making harbor after being caught out in a blow. Tim Diebert Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 This may not surprise you....but I have never owned a tie...never wore one. (I just turned 48) But for years I have wanted to buy a real nice suit, with a tie. My wife says I am nuts as I have nowhere to wear one. I am going to my Grandmothers memorial next week...and even there, a suit might be overkill.....but if I had a suit, I'd be wearing it...along with a nice tie. As for Seamanship. I have seen the nuttiest stuff, as I am sure you all have as well. I welcome it all and call it entertainment. Specially the launch ramp fiascos. As for myself....I am a bit of a fussy bugger for tight luffs, coiled lines and having everything where it should be. That is one of my favorite things about sailing. Staying busy the entire time you are in the boat. There is always something to fix or fuss with. Quote
Greg Luckett Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 I amuse myself for hours just practicing tying knots and enjoying the surroundings. Years ago I had a really ratty looking truck that was otherwise in excellent mechanical shape. Drivers in their newer, fancier machines would give me a wide berth, no tail gaters, no close shaves. Wonder if that would work for a boat? :roll: Quote
