Greg Luckett Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Uh-uh , I have already claimed Samuel to pay for my old age after blowing all my money on boats... Sam is my son, and Ben (7) will also be joining the discussions this evening, both thanks to Frank! Both boys are 2nd graders and about 17 months apart in age. Both are excited about visiting here. They are together, and with me, building the Amphora. This weekend we expect to start lofting and maybe making some details. It should be a great educational experience for them. The boys seem more excited about the underwater exploration gear than the boat, but it is hard to tell because they bounce all over the room with excitment. This will be the first boat that will give them real hands on with the tools too. Up to now I have been giving them scrap wood and such to use their tools on. If everyone just keeps acting the same way we have been doing on here for the last couple of years, there is no need to kid proof our discussions. Guest Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Actually we are pretty near P on the forum and PG at home, here. P=Perfect, PG=Parental Guidance helping and working around our tools and boats with the kids at home. Start them out with some nice hand tools. They are taught a lot about wood and grains of woods, that can be used later on in life. Print out some of Bob and Dave's posts for the older ones to read, or just file away for the future to read, as time presents itself, too. Simple projects for the young to keep the interest going, and results that come shorter than some of the older folks projects on here. And some of us spell worse than a few 8 year olds around here . So just maybe some of the younguns will help and guide us through these times here. Pay attention you old guys and parents here. Looking foward to the board maintaining the same decorum here for a couple more years, too. Quote

I don't know what I would have done at times if my son did't show up to help me. Of coarse he is larger than I :roll: to which I definately took advantage of. The payoffs, besides having a fun boat at the end, will be too numerous to count. I wish I had been involved in an endeavour like this when I was a kid. BTW, that's the first picture of Flyer I've seen. Looks like Mark used the same clear deck plates for ports that I'm using on As You Wish. Quite a helmsman he has there too! --John M. Fairbanks, AK. Nora Lee+ Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Welcome Samuel and Ben, My son Jon (he is a US Marine now) has been doing boat stuff, since he was about your age. He has two boys of his own now (Tyler 6 & Trevor 5) and he is passing the joy of boating and messing around with his son's. Gramps and I enjoy spending time on our boat Sea Fever with our grandchildren. We are hoping to sail in the Caribean and have them spend their winter vacations with us down there. Enjoy the time you have with your Dad, it will help you when you grow up, and it will give you a lot of fum times on the water. Quote
