  1. I found a new shirt for Noah today...would appreciate any britches whether Bibs or just Big Old Jeans...they need a couple of patches or some well worn knees! Maybe a hole or twoo???
  2. Hey everyone, I am in need of a LARGE set of Bib Overalls, for my clown costume, I have been searching the thrift shops and have not been successful. They need to have some miles on them, as my clown personna Noah is 600 years old, and he wouldn't be caught dead in a new pair. I will gladly make a donation to a favorite charity in return for you giving up a well broken in set of britches!
  3. Just browsing through the rest of the forums and want to say that I like Rule # 1...it should be the Rule for Life...how simple but so accurate! Thank You Frank! for allowing me to be a part of a kinder gentler group!
  4. Those boats look great. they look like they really sail too! We used to have boats in the 20-22 ft range before Sea Fever got hold of us! I miss being able to go out for a solo sail on the spur of the moment. Sea Fever requires two sets of hands as she displaces 38,000#. I am looking for a nice tender that will sail too, so we can have the best of both worlds. Capt. Jon will have to build a weekender for and with his grandsons, once he finishes with Sea Fever. Jo I plan to come to Philly this spring, I had to cancel for the Mummer's parade, due to major back problems, but we are working on that so I will be more mobile. I will let you know when...I think you should definitely go to NZ, we have met some reeally fantastic people from that part of the world!
  5. Wayne...can I be you? Your life looks like a lot of fun! The blue sails, with the blue hull are striking! Some really great photos!
  6. Frank, Being a newbie, and also a participant of the WBF, I am enjoying a kinder gentler site, thank you for sticking to your guns. 8) :!: The anger and politics are something that belongs, in a political forum and not on sites where people just want to hang out and have a fun discussion. I don't think I would like to have him in my marina and certainly not on the next dock! (been there done that, and it takes the fun out of your own joy of being on the water)
  7. Did the tall ships in NY Harbor in 1976 and again in 1986, we anchored between Liberty & Ellis Islands for both events. It was an awesome experience, each time, seeing the horizon filled with sailing vessels of all types. coming into the harbor. It is a spectacular experience, to be on the water to experience it! In 86 we were aboard our 'True Rocket' 20 ft wooden boat named "Born on the 4th of July" in honor of our son's 9th birthday. It was the biggest birthday party, I ever gave him, and the highlight of his memory, to this day. (Jeff you are building life time memories with your boys, and giving them skills that will follow them their entire life.) He had his friend Phong Nugyen aboard as his guest. Phong and his family fled Vietnam, in a 22 foot boat with 30 people aboard,( the men were tied along side and swam, wonmen and children were aboard) they took 7 days to get from Vietman to Maylasia. Jon Jr wanted his friend Phong to sail to Lady Liberty with him. Our local paper did an article about the boys, and they were minor celebrities in the anchorage. Just last week, we watched the videos of the two trips and I still get chills watching them.
  8. Hoping to be up there for that, we are planning to be at the Woodenboat Show in Newport the following week. Husband is a ex Sea Bee and was stationed at Davisville, Quonset Point. There is a new Sea Bee Museum up there we will stop to see also.
  9. I learned to sail on the Jersey Shore ( as opposed to the beach which is NC term) on the Navesink River. The girl across the street used her grandfathers ugly boat with about 500 ft of line, tied to the mast, she stood in knee deep water, shouting orders thru a megaphone, when you got in trouble, she would pull you in. We called the boat 'Granpa's Ugly Boat', i found out that the boat was actually a Moth Boat, which was designed here in Elizabeth City, NC by a local man and a yachtsman from Atlantic City, NJ. There are Moth Boat Fllets up and down the east coast. The 3rd week in Sept is the Annual Moth Boat Regatta which crowns the World Champion! BTW the plans for the Moth are available from the Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City for $25.00. An easy boat to build and a real fun boat to sail. Wider than a sunfish, but shorter...fast little buggers. Sloop rig!
  10. I will post pictures, do I need to post to imagestation before posting to this site, I am a bit dumb when it comes to these things till I actual do it. Sea Fever is ALL teak, with exception of the cabin top which needs to be replaced, her hull is 1 7/8'" thick. She is a planked hull, her decks, which need to be recaulked, are 1 1/2' thick, she is one built boat! While you are waiting for pics, just imagine the prettiest classic boat you can imagine, with a clipper bow and teak taff rail, with butterfly hatch, and you pretty much have Sea Fever. Her lines are a sight to behold. She has lost her bloom however, because we let mother nature strip her brightwork, it has taken two years, but the old back and lungs didn't go through all of the mess. We just sat in the cockpit having a couple of cold ones watching the varnish flake. She is powered by a Perkins 4-107 and she has only about 60 hours on the original engine, as she has always been a boat that has been sailed, not motored! Capt Jon is a diesel mechanic and he will be doing a rebuild 'just because'. We had a almost fire while Jon was changing the altinater (even spell check didn't know), so he ripped out the wiring harness and tossed it in the drink...She will be totally rewired, as the last previous owner just ran wires from the batteries, to whatever new gizmo he added. All the gizmos are gone too, just toys from Waste Marine. We plan to make Sea Fever, as simple as she can be, but with enough amenities to make her comfortable for some aging sailors. The Admiral wants a freezer and a heat pump , the Captain wants a wheel and binnacle.(our tiller sweeps the whole cockpit, it can seat about 12 people comfortably!) I am sure you all will get tired of hearing about Sea Fever, far sooner than I get tired of talking about her. She is all the boat we ever dreamed of and more than we ever thought we would own.
  11. Sat aground on July 4, 1974 for 6 plus hours just off the Seaport. Wanted to take a picture of the Charles W. Morgan, told the Captain of our Oday 22 "Delft Blew" to back off so I could get the whole rig in the picture. Well, we ran up on a sand bar, they sent out a long boat to haul us off, they hauled from the bow and hauled us harder aground. The O'day only draws 23 " well, when the tide was fully out there was only 6 " of water! The boat laid on its side until the tide came back in. We got a nice bucket of clams and made some new friends back at the dock. Naturally we missed the last opening of the bridge! You can stay overnight at their docks for a fee and it is like taking a trip back in time...you can walk with the ghosts of seaman of the past. I love the Seaport, and get back there whenever in the area. They have a great research library, that you can access without paying for admission! Thanks for allowing me to reminisce.
  12. Learn by the seat of your pants, heck if you built her, you can surely sail her! Rule # 2 if you get in winds too much for you, let go of all lines and LUFF, this virtually puts the brakes on. Let the sail out and spill wind and things will go a lot slower. I have found that the boat will tell you what to do...it is a living breathing entity...that is why we name them!
  13. Ben, Welcome aboard! Keep up the good work! I too, am, a kid at heart, if life begins at 40, that only makes me 18!
  14. I am a retired kitchen and bath designer, who has been boating since 1973, so have a bit of expertise, as well as time to tackle a project on paper! Need to know limitations, as Dave said and dimensions of unit as well as a wish list of things you would like included.
  15. Mike, Thank You, what a great site! I have bookmarked it, I will visit again. Some neat photos, I remember the bears in Yellowstone disturbing us from our campsite breakfast.(crosscountry trip 1958) They walked into the camp and mother calmy said let's all go to the car and we proceeded to go out for breakfast. We never did find the skillet from the bacon.
