New Lines: Halyard, Snotter,&Downhaul

Made some new lines for the boat today, I had all white(except for the main downhaul) mystery line and I replaced it with Marlow Blue Ocean. Hands are a bit raw from all the whipping and there’s still a bit more to do with the blocks on the sprits but I’m getting there. Halyards are red, downhauls are blue and snotters are green, of course.

Are these thicker than the plans recommend? My lines don't seem so big.

off topic, but it looks like your lines are on top of a painter's bench/platform.  I bought one this spring and I've been amazed how often I use it around the boat.  It's lightweight and folds easily.  I've used it for jsut getting in and out of the boat when loading lots of stuff or doing projects (way better than trying to get my foot to land on the small spot on the trailer), a temporary work bench, doing work on the bow without having to climb all the way up (I'm shorter and have short arms), and many other things.  If you don't have one, get one!

I'm not sure what the plans recommend, but the old lines seemed thicker than needed. The new lines are only 1/4".

Yes is it one of those painter's platforms.  I got it explicity for getting in and out of the boat while on the trailer.  But it is super handy to just have around.  I've used it for a table while camping even. I find it much easier to use than a short ladder or two-step for getting in and out of the boat.

Update!  Maybe not the exactly same topic, but quality lines count.  I bought some EBay specials for the first set of halyards on Kalos.  Initially they were hung up to relieve any twisting and they looked just fine. They were reasonably easy to splice and I thought “score”.  Well after some use the lines started to hockle badly.  Kalos has internal (in the mast) halyards and the hockling was inside the mast.  Took a bit to figure out why the super excessive friction in my spiffy “all lines in the cockpit”.  I have converted the halyards into spring lines and replaced the halyards with quality lines.

I recently replaced the old lines on my CS17mk1.  I did mostly 1/4”.  In retrospect, 3/16” would have run through the blocks easier, especially the reefing lines on the sprit.
