CS 17 Hull 109 plans have arrived

Hi Guys and Gals,

Been lurking for a while trying to make up my mind on my next project. Your posts were very helpful in me making up my mind. Just got the plans in the mail.

Need to finish another boat I already have in the works before I start cutting on this one. That will give me some time to study the plans first anyway. The other boat I'm working on is a 11'5" skiff. Gonna rig for sailing.

Don't have a sheltered work area so I'm kinda weather dependent. But then again, I'm in Florida so I can work pretty much year round.

Looks like an interesting skiff, where did you get the design?

I've only done a D5 pram but I'm itching to get started on CS17 #103.

I've had the plans for a while and I've almost memorized them.

I don't know what it is about the Core Sound but I can't think of a single point I want to change on it.

Can't imagine building a boat outside, all the neighbors could see my mistakes.

Still I should be getting my materials in a couple of weeks.

Got the skiff plans from Uncle John's General Store at http://www.unclejohns.com/skiff/Default.htm

The plans are not nearly as detailed as B&B's but Uncle John readily answers any questions by email.

I've really had a ball building it. I've got privacy fencing on the sides and rarely see the neighbor behind me so my mistakes are my own.

The biggest problems with working unsheltered outside has been leaves falling on wet paint or epoxy and rain. Hasn't gotten cold enough yet to hinder the work. Been thinking about building some kind of temp enclosure.

I'm looking forward to starting on the CS17. Need to look for a local supplier of marine plywood.

I won't bore you with any finished boat shots, but be warned that some of these guys go all out in the quest for the perfect boat. :wink: Don't let that deter you from building your boat with your own personal touches, taking your time and doing it right the first time. Now hurry up and finish this other boat, to get you on the water, to cure the desire to rush your next project. Sounds like I spoke double talk didn't it? I gottta friend in Pensacola tht you need to get a hold of, that has a great shop, and is retired early just to build projects. He took one of those flat bottom down and dirty plans, and turned into a mini 16 foot fishing yacht. I will see if I can get him to check in here.

Yeah, it was good to see someone else's work up close and to see how they do things. You've got a great shop. (need a green emoticon here)

The plane worked well in fixing my bow.

I've put a couple of more pictures below of the skiff. It's kinda bandaged with duct tape right now. It should be healed by morning. Hope it doesn't rain so I can work a little more. If it does rain I may go canoeing.

Good deal. This is the only site that takes forever to load and all I see are box's, no pix's. I'm on a cable modum so speed on my end is not the problem.

I didn't tell you today, but when you get ready to stich & glue another boat. I've got some tricks that make it go much faster and cleaner.

That's usually caused by a firewall or pop-up blocker. Norton Firewall has done that to several people here. There should be a setting in the firewall software to allow the site open access.

Some of the pop-up blockers also cause the delays and the images to not load ... they get confused between the image with a URL and an image with a link (like a banner ad has). The only true pop-up window we use is for when you log in and have a private message, so I tell people to set their blocker software to allow popups on messing-about.com.

Norton Internet Security was the culprit for me, too. I finally went into "Privacy Control" and had to turn off "Enable Browser Privacy." This is a function that prevents web sites from knowing the last web site you visited. Once I made this change I could see all the graphics and emoticons.

I still gotta play with it a little more, maybe a Refresh will do it.

Thanks for the specific info; I'm sure Bill gave me that too, but I've been less than careful about keeping emails lately (actually, I've gotten to a point where I have so many I can't find things when I need them!) I did start a Forum called Forum Q&A, and I took the liberty of quoting you in that forum. Let me know if that's not OK.
