Ok, I was thinking...

When a submarine is at equilibrium, it's weightless. It's totally stationary underwater, with no change in elevation. So why, then, will a wrench that's dropped inside the sub go to the floor? :?

That's just one of the mysteries of life.

The one I always wonder about is when I'm on an airplane, going 500mph at 32,000 feet. If I get up and walk, it feels like I'm on the ground. But what if I jump? Am I going to get slammed into the back of the plane at 500mph? WHOOOOMP!

What I always wondered about is that,

when I go to France on holidays, I lose an hour.

When I come back to Ireland, I get the hour back.

How do I know it's my hour I'm getting back, and not somebody elses :?:

And what have they done during that hour. :shock:

Have I slept with somebody elses wife, or robbed a bank?

I also explain to people who are foolish, or drunk enough to listen, that when the Irish emigrated to America, there were so many hours lost, that they have to have an extra day every four hears to use them all up. Hence the leapyear.

You know, when we leave Nebraska and go to Denver, I never FEEL an hour younger when I cross the time zone. What a rip. :?

What about tires? Yes, tires. Think of all of the hundreds of millions of rubber tires on planet earth. They have tread that wears out, and goes away. Some tread are 1/2" deep or more. Where does all the tread go?? It sure isn't on the street.

Does it go to heaven? I would like to think there's a heaven for tires. Particularly the Dunlops that I consume on the back wheel of my dirt bike. You just cannot beat the Dunlop 756. I think that tire was designed by Jesus himself, no blasphemy intended.

Ok if the sub is Neutrally boyant, then when the wrench hits the floor (I mean deck) will the momentum of the wrench transfer to the sub driving it deeper in the water? What if everybody in the sub starts jumping up and down?

OK!!!!!!!! How about all of the mass we have sent into space??? We have sent tens of thousands of pounds of 'stuff' into space over the past 50 or so years.

I pondered this as a youngster; what about the dispcrepency in the total mass of the Earth? Being as we do not have the same mass as before (sent into space) what happens now? Won't this alter the orbit at some point in time? Could this be the cause of global warming or who knows what???? Decline in the orbit around the Sun??

I am serious in the point that I have pondered this for many years. I still haven't the answers. ???

Jake, dont worry about those ten of thousands of pounds of space junk. America is doing its part to off-set that by breeding tens of thousands of cattle and hundreds of thousands of pounds of potatoes so that we could chow down cheeseburgers and french fries and be millions of pounds overweight. if anything you should be worried that America gets so fat that it disrupts its orbit :cry: :shock:

But Ken, all of that mass stays on Earth. The other stuff is lost forever (Voyager, etc) the other rockets that fall back to Earth are burnt up in hte atmosphere and thus return to the Earth.

Oh, my beloved Hayabusa...

The fastest mass production machine available to man on planet earth. No other license plate carrying *anything* can do what this bike does.

156 horsepower, 9.8 sec 1/4 mile, 180+ mph. All on pump gas, stock tires, and less than $10,000.00. It is a pinnacle of engineering.

Ever heard of John Dobson, the amateur astronomer who is credited with the Dobsonian Mount for telescopes? I attended a talk of his. Fascinating guy, but I suspect you would get a lot more out of it that I did!
