J. Cote
I thought I would paint inside the lockers & lazarette. But I think I am reading that I should NOT paint inside these areas because it makes it harder to inspect for leaks or wood damage. Is that correct? Could there be a problem under the paint I would not be able to see?
Don Silsbe
Good question! I didn’t, but I’m wondering if I should have. I’m waiting for the others to chime in, too.
Hirilonde
The reason so many classic wooden boats have varnished masts, instead of painted is to allow for visual inspection. Whether that is necessary or not on our builds, unless we have wooden spars is debatable. I can't imagine my Lapwing springing a leak unless I bash into something. Then I would think it would be quite noticeable, painted or not. I don't see any real need to paint lockers, except that doing so in white, or a light pastel would make seeing inside easier. I didn't paint mine. If I had storage down below, like in a Mk3, I would. I consider finding things easily important.

Painting white inside the lockers for the purpose of seeing better inside, was exactly what I had in mind. I just wanted to be sure I wouldn't regret it later. Paul356
I painted white inside lockers, haven't regretted. Good visibility, no issues.
Don Silsbe
I think the key word here is “lockers”. Air chambers probably don’t need it. But if we’re gonna store stuff in there, it will be good for visibility and maybe even durability. What do y’all think?
