Are these the staples?

Hey guys on the website and the book Jeff mentions staples with a tapered end. Are these the right ones? I just found them randomly and only one pack in the store.

 

I've been looking around and these are all I've found. This is for the stonefly canoe.

Yes and no.  Yes, right end but they are steel and you need monel or stainless.  Steel will rust and stain your finish and eventually fail.  

 

Problem is that I cannot find Monel or stainless with staples with that tapered ends now so you are stuck with Square ends now

Those have the tapered ends. Those are 3/8ths but I can also get them in 5/16ths, 1/4, 7/32.

 

Then there is the Monel ones with chiseled ends:

I suspect from my research and your notes, I should go with the monel - is 1/2 OK?

Never seen galvanized before so can't speak with experience but they should work. Galvanizing is a good rust proofing. Jut don't know how well they are coated.  I would be temped to try them.

Ended up ordering the monel ones with the divergent end (finally found the term from an Arrow rep on the Home Depot site). Will update on how they are. Was going to buy the galvanized ones but couldn't find them in Canada's Home Depot or on Amazon so there's that.

Galvanizing chips when nails or staples are shot from a rack.  You won't regret going Monel.
