Lathe cost a little more than that!! Gouges and scrapers (good ones) are very expensive. I have one scraper that cost over $90! Now for a decent 4 jaw chuck?? The start at about $200 with no accessories. :roll:

Mine are 1 5/8" thick and 2 7/8" diameter. They started out at 3" but after trueing them up they lost a bit. Mine are scrap Zebrawood that I laminated together. Ash would be much better. I actually chucked 4 at a time on a long bolt onto the lathe, but the press is handy. Especailly now that I have a broken tool rest and broken tail piece on the lathe.

The thought has crossed my mind more than once grasshopper!! No Imoticons for this feeling....

Bill, when you go to buy lathe tools, do not buy hte cheapies!! II can say from personal experience, they are a waste of money. The good ones appear to be much more expensive, and they are, but they will pay for themselves very quickly. Less headaches and hassles. When the time comes, give me a shout, I can help direct you to a good source and decent tools for what you might need. I have well over $800 invested in lathe tooling alone. :shock: Yaeh, too much! :shock:

...Mainsail. Ray and Phil, have you had a chance to play with that track and develop a plan on the loosefooted mainsail?? I know that Paul has recommended taking a line (1/4") aft from the attachment point on the sail/slide to a cheek block; leading fore through a guide to a cam cleat or any other attachment point. :)
