Finishing by end of August is a hope...

I think the colors turned out nice, but unfortunately the finish and painting are amateurish at best. Such is life. But it is ready to move which was the real goal. I hope to finish by end of August.

Don, Terry, Doug, Don, Chick and Graham, I hope everyone has had or is having a safe trip home. Hard rain rain here, but no red clay so that is a plus. I enjoyed meeting everyone and appreciate everyone's help with the the boat and motor. Don and Terry, thank you for allowing us to come to the trailer and warm up. There is a lesson there for me. Chick, I can't thank you enough for allowing me drive your boat all afternoon. It was a helpful introduction and has given me lot of ideas. Your boat is lovely. Chick, A quick question. I have a 15' wooden power boat. I could bring it if you don't think it would get in the way and or might be helpful. It is not a B&B brand. If not I can bring my kayak. I am good with either, but don't want to be the one guy disturbing the peace unless there is a good reason... such as platform for photos and movies. Your call. Best Regards

Steve and Chick, I felt compelled to tape the hull/sheer seem. Once done, I felt OK putting the sheer strip on. I did glass up to the sheer strip. I think I will glass top of cabin house and down about two inches. I will then tape remaining seems. Everything will receive the minimum of 3 coats of epoxy, primer then paint. I have looked forward to getting to this point for months. I have ordered sails, requested deck hardware layout so am, I hope, in the short rows. If nothing else, I can visualize the end. I figure I will be finished between June and August. Now that the boat is on a trailer and mobile, I can breath easier. Best Regards to all..

Dear all, The Flying Scott Class has a mandatory mounting rope on their transoms. They have two eyes at either side of the transom. They tie a rope from one to the other. The rope is slack and hangs down to near the bottom gudgeon. The rope is between the rudder and the transom. To remount, grab the rope. Then reach for top of transom. Put foot in rope and step up. It is not easy, but easier than climbing aboard without an assist. Also it is minimal build and interference. Climbing up into a boat is always hard. I will try this first. if it does not work out, no wood was injured in the process. Regards.

Chick, If the boat is not mobile it stays. If it stays, I will be divorced. So yes it will be finished or I will be finished. Fairly simple.

Chick, I agree working from the cradle would make more sense. We are in a time crunch I can only round up a half dozen people so often. I expect I will regret this but we need to keep moving. At least the boat will be mobile. Best Regards

Chick, Thank you. I cut the holes for the bailors ( One in , no penent, and one out). They will be installed this week. Thank you for the heads up on the board. That makes me feel better. I did not like the idea of flipping the boat with the board installed. I could imagine all sorts of problems. Was your boat on a trailer when you installed the board or still on casters in the ship. We plan to roll it and put it on the trailer. Thank you

Apparently there is a 1" version of the RL390 and a 1 3/8" version. I was not aware of that until last night. It is not a problem to exchange 1" for 1 3/8" so that is sorted. If the new ones need a good hammering, there any number of past experiences I can draw upon for inspiration. I was hoping to get top sides painted while I was on my two week sabbatical, but fell short.

Good morning. The Duckworks motor mount is perhaps the best looking and option I have seen. I like that it can be removed. Price is no worse than others I have seen. I did try expanding the pintle straps. It could be done, but the holes closest to the spine were at the edge of the rudder head. I think I will return these and get the next size up. Regards
