The Dark Green should be a striking traditional color and wonderful with the copper bottom. Looking forward to finished report and of course photos....we all want photos. I search but wasn't able to find it in a posting. Please keep the pictures coming what, an inspiration. There needs to be a "Hall of Fame" site where all the finished boats are pictured with the pertinent information (maybe there is and I just don't know it). Quote
Chris Gerkin Posted May 14, 2003 Author Posted May 14, 2003 I bought copper dust from an epoxy place in Pittsfield, NH. The stuff was very cheap. I mixed it 30% by weight with epoxy and brushed it on. There are at least 2 coats maybe 3. Quote

High C Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Wow, a museum piece in the making! Concerning the copper bottom. Do you think it's adequately UV resistant? Epoxy alone will break down quickly absent paint or varnish to protect it from UV. Do you think you have enough protection from Mr. Sun? Quote
Chris Gerkin Posted May 15, 2003 Author Posted May 15, 2003 The deck is laid cypress and I have only one rubrail and it is white oak. I didn't go with a lower rail. My deck stringers are a little larger so I didn't think I would need the lower rail for hull rigidity. The copper only comes up to the waterline so I am thinking the bottom will be in the water all the time so the uv shouldn't be a problem. If I am wrong a clearcoat might be in order. Only time will tell. Quote

Chris Gerkin Posted May 15, 2003 Author Posted May 15, 2003 I skipped out a little early today, everyone else went to the opening of the Byron Nelson. I must be addicted to boatbuilding I came home to paint. The HVLP is one of the best things I ever bought. Virtually no overspray. The sanding job wasn't perfect but the stuff came out like glass. One quart did both sides above the waterline. I did break a cardinal sin because I have not removed the tape. The paint requires 24 hours before recoating so I will remove it then and send more pictures. Quote
