Graham’s Sept Boatbuilding Presentation in Washington NC – Display Boats

Hi, Graham will be presenting a two-hour introductory program on wooden boat building at the North Carolina Estuarium, in Washington NC, on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 1-3 pm. A friend and I thought this would be a good way to revive interest in family wood boatbuilding during Beaufort County, NC’s 300 Anniversary Celebration, and Graham agreed to help.

We would like to have as many of Graham’s designs as possible displayed on trailers during the afternoon and evening of this event, and to have you share your experiences with those attending the event and other visitors. I plan to bring my BRS 15, and Belhaven 19 (ex-Scott D’s), and Graham is loaning us a Mandy. Please let me know here, or by PM, if you would be able to bring a BandB or similar home build wood boat to display on the Estuarium grounds. There is also other entertainment planned for the Washington waterfront that day and evening including the Craig Woolard Beach Band, the North Carolina Symphony, and fireworks. Just a bump reminder of Graham's boat building presentation on Sat Sep 22, 1-3 pm at the NC Estuarium on the waterfront in Washington NC as part of Beaufort County's 300 Anniversary Weekend. In addition to Graham's Mandy, BRS14, BH19, and Tony's PS22, Steve Bussieri (ex-Maine now Bath NC builder) will be showing an large electric (Ray OB) skiff and a traditionally built (no epoxy) guideboat. Hope to see some of you there. Ring me if more info needed or if you want to display your homebuilt wooden boat. The NC Symphony is also scheduled to play there that afternoon/evening. I'll be out of town for the weekend so won't be able to attend. My CS-20 Mk 2 isn't ready yet, but I have some small boats that could go if anyone wants to pick them up from my place and bring them back.

I have a Moccasin I, and a Moccasin II canoe, and a Mini-paw dink.

Graham's presentation was very well received by over 35 active participants and all enjoyed the display boats - Mini-paw, Moc I, Mandy, BRS15, BH19, OB20, & PS22. Many hope to attend the upcoming Messabout. Hope to have a Family Boatbuilding Event in little Washington eventually. Many thanks to all who helped and shared their boats with us. Rick

I'm glad it went so well. Thanks for organizing this event. I'll be there along WITH my boats next year. Hopefully we can have a mess-about along with it! It would be great fun "messing" about along the little Washington waterfront!
