Any ideas what the payload capacity of the Moccasin is at the 6" or so waterline?

I plopped into one with my wife.  I weigh @ 240.  My wife won't tell me her weight.  So, I guess, I can't really help. Well, she weighs at least 120.  She laughed at me when I guessed at that number and said "I wish".

I would guess at least 400 lbs, but Graham would be your best source of information.

That confirms why I am building a 20' x 42" wood strip canoe. I often admire the simplicity of some of the other plywood canoes, but then the reality of 500# minimum payload comes back to bite me. My stripper is about done. It has 1,000# capacity at the 6" waterline. I think it will weigh about 90# when done with 3 caned seats. I still marvel at a project that can be done in a few weekends.

Quite true RE payload, but then you are comparing a 15'8" craft with a 20' craft - huge difference.

I also like the simplicity of a S&G small craft, but love sticking all those B&C strips together. You could speed that process along with a staple gun, but I used clamps on my last stripper to avoid those neat vertical rows of black-dot staple holes.

Hey any news on the capacity for the Moccasin 2? I am looking to build a canoe with at least a 450 weight capacity and really like the Moccasin 2. What about a open Birder 2? Looking for any suggestions or advice.

It a while to dig this up. The Moccasin 2 takes 587# to push her down to draft of 5". At 4 1/4" draft it takes 484#.
