Still Trying to Decide Which Boat

Ow is right.  I know the feeling.  I have been unemployed for a year now.  I have found a fair bit of work on my own.  Some of it boat work, some of it residential, enough to help keep me going.  But not enough to take on an expensive fun project and feel confident it is fiscally responsible.

Sorry to hear about your lay-off, grj. I'm in the same (non)boat, so to speak. Had a check ready to drop in the mail to Ray the day I was laid-off. Working on a career change at the moment. Some day my ship will come in.  :-)

Good luck with the career change. I did that about 15 years ago. Went from building hydraulic equipment for the electric company to computer programming. It has worked out well for us.

What are you going from and to?

I already have a possible position with the parish (county) that starts in January. Hopefully I will know for sure next week.

If the answer is yes then I will face the difficult decision of whether to buy the CS17 kit now or wait to make certain that something does not go wrong. I would be off until January 2 and the 4 weeks or so of full time building would go a long way.

GRJ, where in Louisiana are you located?  I am in West Monroe and we are at the point in our progress that we are going to turn the CS20 we are building.  I too was laid off but about 7 months ago and it looks like I may be moving to Maine.  What a change.  Feel free to call if you're in the WM neighborhood and you can look at the mess we started and are dialing in.  It really looks cool.  318-397-2201, just remind me when you call that you've been on line and would like to see the boat.

4 weks of building could easily get you to stitched and taped up hull, interior seats, cboard trunk installed and deck and coaming all up.

Then comes the fun of finishing... sanding and fairing,  build masts, cboard itself rudder rudder stocks...

nice thing is that stuff is very amenable to part time buidling.  You sand out and reapply fairing compound and wait till the next day to let cure....
