on the plans diagram in the round of corner it call for a 2 1/2 inces radius for the cabin hatch and for a 6 inches radius under the cockpit seat how do you measure the radius???I just dont want to wing it.

Use a compas:

Set the compas with a pencil in it to the correct radius. Put the point of the compas on the line where the radius starts and draw a small arc. Do the same on the other side of the radius. Where the two arcs meet will be the centre of the required radius. Put the compas on this centre and sweep out the required radius.

This is probably confusing, but you need to fins the centre of the radius and then use the centre to draw it. Hope that helps. 8) 8)

I winged it, sort of. I found a coffee can that was about a 6" diameter and used it for the 6" radius, and a margarine container that was about 3" and use it for the other radius. Drew the radius on the ply, stepped back, and thought they looked OK, so I cut them out.

A dinner plate is approx 11 inches in diameter, a coffee can about 6" in diameter. So...if you were to lay the plate upside down in the corner of the two lines you will have about 5 1/2" radius on the larger one. Same with the coffee can on the hatchway and you will have a 3" radius on it. Close enough for our purposes.

Oh...one more thing, you might not want to borrow a good china plate from the dining room for this. Seven year problem you know! :?

Not having a compass handy, I took a small thin scrap of plywood, measured off the radii I needed on it, and drove a small finish nail through one end of the line. I then drilled holes just wide enough to accomodate the pencil tip at the radii I wanted. It worked so well, I hung it on my tool rack for future use.

Denis, it's good to hear you thinking out loud again! When you were quiet for a while, I found myself wondering if you got stuck or had cabin fever. It's fun to follow your progress through your questions and discussion. Just don't get obsessed with sanding like some of the guys around here (no names mentioned ).

Well, its from Navy Slang, a website dedicated to keeping the language polluted with slang from sailors. The "King" is the person who is in charge of caring for certain tasks ... the "Water King" keeps the "Scuttlebutt" (drinking kegs) full of fresh water (or maybe that's "grog"!) So it may sound lofty, but its really not. A few more posts and you'll "earn" a new title (they are based on the number of messages you post).

Seems the folks on the ships haven't modified their slang even though there are plenty of women on board. Or maybe they are REALLY progressive and decided that "King" should be modified and now unisex, like "Actor".

It's probably too late for this but I'll tell you how I'd do it.

Draw parallel lines to the ones you have 6" inside. The center of your arc is the intersection of the two lines. Set your compass for 6" and voila you have your arc.

We would, and probably did, do it the way Frank did his: find a can or something round which has the right diameter and trace around it.
