Jeff, You posted a cliff hanger!  Imagine that: good summer reading right here on the forum!  Holding my breath 'til you post Part II

As we got closer and closer ....  I became more and more concerned. ... the boat was certainly gone.

Agatha Christy's got nothing on you.  My bet is on Colonel Mustard in the Marina with the candle stick which is really a Klingon cloaking device and the boat is still there but invisible.  I nailed it, didn't I.

Hole E Carp!   Oooooo that really hurts.  Oh man! I feel your pain.  Didn't see that one coming.  

We practically ran the mile there, to find the Beatrice Ann stranded just below the high tide mark, full to the seat tops with sand and water, rudder gone, and a gaping hole in her starboard side.   ...wailing and gnashing my teeth would accomplish little.

I must say, it is impressive how well Capt. Jeff maintained his cool and/or state of shock.  

So it wasn't Colonel Mustard.  Hmm.  Sounds more like it was a band of rudder-stealing Ferengis packing multiphasing hull disrupter weapons!  

Wow.   I am not even going to try to guess what Capt. Jeff will do next.   What will he do!   What WILL he do!?

I'm betting on he'll materialize his TARDIS around the boat, then take it to a planet of genetically enhanced shipwrights, before finding out that the shipwrights are secretly being controlled by the Federation Senate from a Bizarro universe.

I was thinking of Richard Dreyfuss diving around a sunken boat in Jaws.....the victim's head popped out of a hole and scared the *&%@ out of him.  (...and me too).

Even though I was only 7 when it came out in 1975, and obviously I wasn't allowed to go see it in the theater.

Its a great movie.  I remember reading about the problems with "Bruce", the mechanical shark.  It wasn't working as expected, so Spielberg had to shoot around the shark, having him only appear a few times.  The problems with the shark were also responsible for Spielberg using the "shark's viewpoint" in many shots, one of the techniques that I think added to the drama of the movie.  "Bruce" was the name of Spielberg's attorney; Spielberg also called the shark "The Great White Turd" on occasion when it didn't function.

Seriously, though... Think about what they had to go through to get a shot, 30 years ago. Jaws, Star Wars, etc.

It kinda makes the computer generated stuff, not very impressive.

Thanks for sharing the adventure.  Whew, glad to learn that Capt. Jeff and the CS20 Beatrice Ann are home again. 

I have a few questions:  I assume the boat beached itself directly downwind of where it had been at anchor, right?  Do you have any ideas about what it collided with that did the damage?  (rocks? other boats?)  What is your guess about what happened to the rudder?

A more general question:  I too have had the experience of sand in the CB trunk  --when anchoring (in calm flat-water conditions) the boat on a beach with the keel sitting on the sand and the locked in the retracted position with one anchor far in on the beach and the other anchor off the stern out in deeper water.  After being parked this way for several hours I found that sand and small gravel has sloshed up between the CB and the inside walls of the trunk and "locking" the CB in place.  Out in deeper water a minute of jiggling the horn (handle) of the CB and pouring water in from the top solved the problem but the experience probably put some light scratches on the inside walls of the trunk.  But it sure sounded awful "grinding" the CB out to an extended position.  A slotted rubber gasket mounted on the outside of the CB slot would probably help,  but until I do that (if I do that)  I suppose I should just limit the time the boat is parked in the shallows.    I'm wondering if others have any comments/suggestions about this issue.
