Trolling Motor Receiver

I have seen this idea used before but I don't recall where I found it.  Here's what we did on our weekender.

Before we put the sides on it seemed like the time to build in a mount for the trolling motor.  We mounted a piece of 1.25 square plated tubing with holes about every inch to a 2 x 4 block attached to the back side of the lazarette with a bolt.  Where the tubing exits the transom we added a piece of 1 by to beef up the area.  The motor mount will be welded to a matching piece of 1 " tubing that will plug into the "hitch" and held in place with a pin. Both square tubes were stock items at the local big box lumber yard.

Safe to say my portable grill will also be mounted on a piece of the left over 1" stock and plugged into the hitch when it's time to eat.  Could attach the mount for the ski rope, but that might be pushing things.

I'll let you know if this actually ends up working.

It might be best to tie the ski rope directly to the trolling motor.  If you put the ski tow hardware on the transom you will have to mount it offset from the motor mount and the boat will want to turn well before you're even on plane.

We did something like that on our Core Sound 20 (http://www.roguepaddler.com/cs20l.htm). Ours is round, but the square version should work just as well and won't have to contend with rotational forces of the tube turning inside the hitch. Ours worked out really great, looks nice and discrete, and gets lots of compliments from other folks at the dock when they see me install or remove the motor mount.

That's a great idea about making a grill mount for it. Hmmm....
