Really, really should have a quality custom made cover that you can trail with. Second choice would be a quality custom cover that's not suited for trailing but fits well and is well supported so it won't gather a small wading pool in the cockpit. Third choice doesn't exist. Even if you plan to keep your boat in the garage, you need a cover. A good cover. Sun is bad. Bad bad. Also bad, however, is dust and dirt, and the rusty ring left by a can of WD 40 left on the deck. And CAT TRACKS! I don't know about where you live, but here we're not even allowed to shoot them! Legally, that is. It would seem a cover is something you can put off.....it isn't. You need a cover. I have a crap boat, so a $10 polytarp works great. It's all relative. :beamup: But seriously folks...a good cover would be a fine thing. I use a large enough tarp that it all bungies together under the boat. So all the paint is protected. The only opening is at the back. So far the cats have not discovered this primo bathroom area. :changes: Quote
Frank Hagan Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 I use a car cover, a generic one sized for a mid-sized car like the Ford Taurus, which fits OK (but doesn't cover the entire bowsprit). It does allow the boat to "breath" so mildew doesn't form, but it will also allow water to leak in if it pools on top (semi permeable, like a tent I guess). So now I have ... a blue polytarp stretched over the top of it. Jake might have a concern with the blue color telegraphing onto the surface under it, which happens with some of these tarps (especially if it is in hot sun). So the car cover thing works well to protect the fine finish of the boat .... yeah, that's it, that's why I have two covers on my boat. Yeah. :wink: Quote
