I drove about 45 mins. north of Auckland to launch the boat and then sailed about 4 hour to Bon Accord Harbour on Kawau Island (if you have Google Earth you can type in Auckland, zoom out a bit and you will see Kawau Island labelled to the north - if you zoom in the biggest harbour is Kawau. Right now I envy you that (snow flurries forecast here). I traveled in NZ a bit on my way home from US Peace Corps service in Samoa in '88, and I remember it fondly. Quote

Dale Niemann Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Great pictures Richard. Thanks Did you switch from sleeve sails to track? It appeared to me that the earlier photos had a sleeve and the more recent had a track. If I am correct, would you mind telling me why you make the change? I am finally about finished. I now have four coats of varnish on the deck and probably put a couple more on. I have purchased sleeve sails and am wondering if they will be ok for camp cruising. Thanks Dale Quote

Richard Whitney CS#70 Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 Tom I had sleeve luffs and change when I found I could not reef as effectively - especially when sailing on my own - if the wind comes up quickly. The sleeves were very easy, neat to roll up around the mast to stow them etc. but given where I sail I do not regret changing over to the track system. I don't think I am an efficient enough sailor to notice any real difference in performance. If I was building again (I see a Princess 22 in the longer term future) I would go with track sails. Quote
