Blades, etc.

Any suggestions on blades for the saw? Not really familiar with all of the wood working stuff, so what blade would you all recommend for cutting the ply, etc? Thanks in advance, also any suggestion on brands of blades, bits, etc, use Snap On cobalt at work, but that's all metal.

For what kind of saw? :?

I cut most of the plywood with a Bosch jig saw. I find that even though there are many brands of blades made to fit my saw, and some are quite good; Bosch makes the best ones. I like 12 teeth per inch all purpose wood blades for most any cutting of boat parts.

I use a circular saw for most cutting. Then a jig saw for tight spots and tight curves. In both cases get at least a moderatly priced blade specifically for plywood. it will make the going much easier. The cheapest blade dull quickly. The most expensive cost more than two or three of the moderate priced blades.

As do I. Most of the hull panel curves are easily cut with a circular saw. Carbide teeth, and lots of them.

A reasonably good blade for the 7 1/2" circular saws is the Black and Decker Pirahna 24 tooth Carbide tipped blade. It sells for about $7-8 almost everywhere. It is good for cross cuts as well as ripping. Should last you thru the build of a Weekender if you don't go crazy trying to cut concrete or metal with it.

Although a better quality (and more expensive) carbide tipped combination bladesuch as a Forrest blade will last longer and give you a smoother cut with less effort.
