Going to Phoenix on the 8th of next month and returning the 13th, what part of Nevada? Leaving from Grand Junction Colorado and going thru Flagstaff. Got 2 days to get home so I could make a side trip.

I'm gonna be in Long Beach on the 23rd. Anyone in the area have a Vacationer or Weekender I could see in person? Only gonna be there for 2 days for work and would like to see one up close if I could.

Heard from them today. They aren't taking phone orders or e-mail orders at this time so I'll send out a money order in the morning. So, I figure I'll see the plans real soon. Thanks for everyone's input. Just can't wait to get started......

Buying them from someone else wouldn't be right would it? I thought 1 set of plans 1 boat. At least that's how I understood it. Guess I'll just wait and hear from them when they get to it, weathers not that great right now any way.

Greg, thanks for the link, just getting antsy. Frankly the motorcycle thing has been boring me for about the last three years, but it's a living. I really miss sailing since moving here, and last summer just made it worse. Just wanna get started. Judging by some peoples signatures it seems there may be some parrotheads about.

Any idea how long it takes to tpically hear back to confirm plan orders?

While I'm sure his boat is top notch, I just gotta build my own. Building bikes for me has always been enjoyable, and I feel if you don't build her yourself, she'll always be someone elses. As much as I enjoy riding my bikes, alot of the enjoyment comes from my building them, and I feel the boat will be the same. I guess it's the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Besides, I don't have alot of woodworking experience, so I get to learn some new things along the way. Again, thanks but I just gotta build it. As an aside being that I live on the Utah/Colorado border ( Grand Junction Colorado) for now, are there any Vacationers or Weekenders you know of in this area I could see first hand?

Talked it over with da "Boss", she says build the Vacationer sail her 2 years and we'll start on a larger boat, so I guess I have time to decide on the Sharpie later............not gonna do anything if it doesn't warm up -2 with a high of 20 for the next 5 days with snow tomorrow and Sunday. So if I'm right in my calculations 3500 to 5000 for a nicely finished Vacationer? Seems like alot of fun for little money.

Any thoughts on the 32 foot Mystic Sharpie, difficulty, price, weight etc. ?I'm still 99% sure I want to build a Vacationer, but I did stumble on this fine looking boat. Man if it wasn't so cold outside I would already be building, instead of looking at all kinds of trailer sailor sites.

How cold is it where you are? Damn I hate single digits. Way too cold for anything nautical.

I wouldn't classify that as cut bait............a little small don't you think? Seriously though, I remember one time catching something a little bigger on a pilcher {bait} rig once, best 5 minute fight of my life.

Any suggestions on blades for the saw? Not really familiar with all of the wood working stuff, so what blade would you all recommend for cutting the ply, etc? Thanks in advance, also any suggestion on brands of blades, bits, etc, use Snap On cobalt at work, but that's all metal.

Thanks for the input, guess I have a lot to learn, found the beam thing interesting, did not know that. Mostly the boats are gonna end up for me and my son, as my daughters will be leaving for college in 2 years, I hope, haha. So we'll see how things turn out I guess. Again, thanks fopr the input, hopefully this doesn't get as expensive as the bikes do. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this weekend so I can get the garage set up.

Looked at the C-12 this afternoon, think I'll still stick with the 16 footer, more room for the kids and all, appreciate the input though. Besides, the wife thinks it's a small boat so I get it and the Vac. Looks like it'll be alot of fun on the resivoir here, and I'm really not impatient when it comes to rigging the boat to get it in the water, good family time. Will post pics as it comes together, figure on starting it next weekend. Just gotta get a portable garage and set it up this weekend, should be fun, highs in the 20's and lows in the single digits.

Maybe a dumb question, but I have found so many great ideas on line, and some I've come up with on my own.................how do you choose which ones to incorperate? Also, my 5 year old insists it has "Pirate" rails. I know he wants rails around the transom, should be easy enough, but I haven't seen anyone with wooden pulpit rails on the bow...anybody seen any, or have any info? Damn, it's beginning to look like I have more ideas for options than boat. I see how this can become addictive and why some people say your boat is never done, you're always tweeking something.

Found a larger version at 16 ft. Looks like alot of fun, found it on Simplicityboats.com. I know playing hookie may be a problem, but working at a Harley Dealership in the summer cuts down on time to build as well. They say this boat, the 16 footer, can be built in as little as 24 hours, don't see that happening, but looks like alot of fun. I figure two years to build the Vac, as we can't have time off in the summer, so at least I figure that the smaller boat will keep the juices flowing. With a friend helping I am hoping this goes quicker though. Since it's 19 out right now and not getting any better, I'm at least enjoying going through all of the older posts, sure is a lot more to learn than I envisioned. I started intitially thinking, build a boat go sailing, think it may be getting more serious than that. Presently my wife and I own 5 motorcycles, is there a possibility wooden boat building could be as addicitive if not more so?

So running about in the Gulf such as to Egmont Key, etc. will be fine? I know for the lakes up here and in Utah it will be fine, but I keep reading how unstable a Vac is offshore. I guess I'll just build her and see how she goes. The ballast question seems to have been answered elsewhere in these forums, as have the rot questions. Anything else I should consider?

Hello, I'm presently living in Colorado, but am from Anna Maria Island Florida, and will be here a few more years. I had forgotten just how much fun sailing was, until this summer. A friend of mine, from work, took a sailing course and promply bought a 19ft. O'Day. Went out with him a few times and it all came right back. So, long story short, I'm gonna order my Vacationeer plans after Christmas to start on this spring, but am considering building a 16ft, Summer breeze. I found the plans for online first. I think I could use it as a way of learning some of the skills I'll need for the Vacationeer, as well as give me something to sail to keep the inspiration up. Any thoughts, or should I just build the Vac? Also, pros and cons of taking either with me back to Florida when I go? Thanks for any input.
