About the new forums ...

I decided to add a woodworking section to the forums at messing-about.com. There are some great woodworking forums out there, so this is a bit of duplication, but I did think that the community here may be able to bring its own unique style to this topic.

Most of us are woodworkers before we build a boat, and the rest seem to enjoy the buiding process so much they become woodworkers after building a boat.

Under the Woodworking section are the following four forums:

General Woodworking

The main woodworking forum on messing-about.com, open to all discussions regarding woodworking techniques, project gloats, questions for others, etc.

Power and Hand Tools

Tool reviews, Q&A, tips and techniques for using woodworking tools.

Shop Built Tools and Jigs

While you can buy nearly any jig or tool you want, limited funds keep most of us from doing so. This forum showcases tools and jigs built by woodworkers which often perform better at a fraction of the cost.

Articles (Read Only)

Reprints of selected posts we found to be especially enlightening. Links to the original forum post provided to discuss the content in this forum.

The Articles forum will have some of the classic posts given by Bob Smalser here in these forums, as well as other articles submitted by our readers. Otherwise, it is a "read only" forum intended to provide a ready archive of great content.

If this doesn't take off in the next few weeks, we'll go ahead and reduce the forums again to the original four.

I think my employer is trying to kill me with long hours and multiple annoyances ... kind of a modern day business version of the "Chinese Water Torture". But, at least I'm employed! (My division was sold to another company who is operating us as a subsidiary, so we all kept our jobs ... for now at least. If they ever consolidate, as companies usually do, we would be out of work).

But that said, there's a lot of satisfaction in the group here, so I usually direct whatever time I have to it and other worthwhile pursuits (like my family!)

under wood working I see only articles. If I search for unread items I get hits in these forums but cannot read them. The server responds that the item does not exist.

Oops. Sorry about that. I had the permissions wrong. They should all be like the other forums now ... except the "Articles" forum (which is "read only")

Are you guys preparing for the winter now? Any boat work happening this winter?

Its too late to prepare for winter, Its already got us. Already an inch of snow and 10 below. Swimmer is in storage for hibernation, Flier needs repairs, and Skipper hasn't even got her sides on.
