Guest Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 A few months ago a Marine General speculated that with the Air Force desiring to purchase STOVL F-22 Raptors, they could conceivably deploy onboard US Navy carriers. This caused an uproar among all the services, and at least one Air Force conceptual idea has merit... How to get the Air Force to go to sea.. Quote

Greg Luckett Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Having been in the Navy and also serving with Air Force units, we loved their castoffs...better clothing and tools that we in the Navy could get or ever expected to get. The AF would throw that stuff away....new clothes washers because they needed a grounded cord rather than change the cord, coats because they had not been used within a given time frame, tool boxes that were old, but in excellent shape, etc. I think golfing is a prereq to be in the AF.....the AF is very spoiled...or at least they were in the 70s. I also spent a few years after the Navy (80-83) in the TxANG and was constantly shocked at how well we were treated and how different the relationships were between ranks. Being in the AF is much like being a civilian. Quote

Only played one game and beat the instructor, and never played again. And yes, the AF had the best of everything, as it should be. Glad our castoffs pleased you all. I also served in the Naval Reserve for 3 years prior to the AF hitch, so I still have a tender heart for Naval personnel. Now the Army is a different story. Quote

As a Green Suiter in Europe we used to "joke" that the Air Force fiscal management strategy was build the Officer's Club, build the NCO and Enlisted clubs, build the housing and the golf course and the PX, and then go back to Congress and say, gee guys, we need some more money for runways and gas... I posted it as it had been a bit slow with boat related activity or so it appears in my mind to be anyway. What people will do in their spare time and a computer. Next you will be on the coast guard and say you had to be six foot tall to get in so if your ship wen't down you could wade ashore or the marine corp. and say they were the Navy's police force.
