Thinking about donating the Vacationer

We've been in a drought here for about 3 years. It's had minimal use in the last three years for this reason. The boat ramps are hard to use now.

The lake continues to be low enough that launching and retrieving is... challenging. No signs of it recovering anytime soon.

Topping it off, my parents have sold the acreage, which has the shop building that stores my vacationer. I don't have a place to store it, and I'm not terribly inclined to rent storage for it.

I wouldn't be able to just cut it up and send it to the landfill, though.

I'm thinking about giving it up to someone, if they're willing to come get it.

There's a few catches, though.

I'm in Lincoln, NE and you'd have to come get it. Second, it's on a very very special trailer that I won't part with. So someone would have to have a trailer and come get it. We'd probably have to go out to the lake and launch it and put it back on the new trailer.

Third... the rudder box and rudder need to be rebuilt.

But I'd really, really like to see it go to a good home. I can't just throw it away. :cry: Anyone know of someone who'd be willing to travel here and get it? There's no money involved, so I obviously wouldn't try to hide any defects or anything. I'll disclose anything and everything. There's probably over $100.00 just in Harken hardware alone on it.

But it's not perfect. It's not finished off inside, except for carpet on the sole. I'm keeping the outboard. Pix and details available anytime. Let me know. I'm still on the fence about this. There may be local interest in it, but I thought I'd post here and see what replies I get.

Well my friends and my wife think I'm crazy, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

I went and looked at it in the shop yesterday... What a big boat!

I'm still on the fence about this, I will post again in a week or so when things settle down.

We're in the process of moving/selling/showing our home, and that's a big distraction right now.

Now my son grew up sailing with me, each new boat is an adventure in its self when my monster gets control of the helm. :shock:
