adla Posted June 26, 2004 Posted June 26, 2004 ok...hOW did I ever get by without a bandsaw??? it was easy peasy to cut exact duplicate pieces...then they were rounded with a 1/2" round over...and finally the first coat of stuff. i'm sorry this is such a teknical post but i am wiped out! adla Posted June 26, 2004 Author Posted June 26, 2004 it only sat in a box one day and then i just couldn't take it ~ the blade, spring and new guides aren't here yet...but once i had the thing set up, i started making practice cuts and it just got out of hand...there i was cutting the gaff jaws ...who knew the bandsaw cut like butter? 8) i did round the back of the blade...and was very well behaved about setting it up and aligning the pulley's with a straight edge and such...etc etc a. I always feel like I have a bit more control, as the blade is pushing down on the stock rather than trying to lift it up. Looks like you have the Jet 14" bandsaw ... same one I have. I love it. For replacement blades, I love Suffolk Machinery's Timberwolf blades. You can buy them directly from them and get them pretty economically. Woodcraft and Woodworker's Warehouse also sell them, but they are a bit more expensive in the stores. Looks like their site is down this morning, but it is at http://www.suffolkmachinery.com/. Quote

When you return the plane, plan on spending a little extra time. Bring your stuff. Adla, your work, as usual, is wonderful! Looking very nice. What discipline or field requires the paper? Is it a humanities class or a social science class? The cuttings look good; no one can gaff about those jaws. How are the circles turning out? You can make a simple jig for circles. Sounds to me like you're cutting free-hand. That's good practice, too. Quote
adla Posted June 27, 2004 Author Posted June 27, 2004 i hesitate to call it a discipline - it is a research paper MLA style (which i am currently agonizing over - not the subject but the style) like everyone else on this board i have opinions but fret having to express them in an academic forum when it has been a decade or so since i quit the study of History for other pursuits. (like money and a place to live) i cut circles free hand pretty darn well...my mother came over tonight to see the saw and i ran out and cut her a poplar circle. i can't sew and i know that breaks her heart....but i cut 'em circles real purdy like! i have seen the jigs (Scott Phillips used one this morning on PBS for an oak table.) <---- i obviously have issues. Stump: loOoks like Jake has a bandsaw you can use...they really are NEAT. i plan to take over the world sumday and EVERYONE gets a BANDSAW *applause*..... a. Quote
