Being Done is a relative thing ...

After almost a year and a half of flying sawdust and stretching my budget to the limit, here is my finished pocket cruiser.

It's set up to be a motor-launch. There are few good sailing waters in this area, but some great cruising on the Ky river. I pikced up a 1955 Johnson 5hp motor in good shape ... I hope it's enough to fight the river current.

I can still modify it for sailing , should I change my mind in the future.

I'm beginning to wonder if I will EVER be done with it. I still have lots of plans for stuff I want to do on it, but I plan on launching it next week.

The 5hp should get you going at hull speed, which is probably 5 kts or so for a 14' boat. Don't know about the current though ... maybe someone with experience with strong currents can comment (I think there are some Weekender builders in places where they fight the currents, and IIRC, they do fine with 3.5 - 5hp motors).

And you are right: Boats are never "done", which is why those you buy a boat are surprised at how much they have to do to maintain them! Yours looks great, though. Remember to have someone take pictures at the launch!

when I was a year and a half into mine I still had three years to go. :oops:

I hope you will see sense and stop breathing in all those outboard fumes soon. Sail is the only way to go. Marvel in the quietness and calm, as you ghost through the water. Not upsetting the wildfowl with your passing, and seeing the odd seal pop up and have a look (something that never happens with a motor by the way). Having to master the forces of nature, or rather, coaxing them to do your bidding, rather than simply pulling the cord and pointing where you want to go.
