VermontMitch
I was wondering about the 6 oz fabric we got from Jeff, and had some questions-- 1) I keep reading about "bleeding fingers" from attempting to stretch the stuff. Is there a non- digital hemorrhagic process? 2) If we do get some wrinkles after sewing it up, what it is basic ironing technique for heat shrinking? 3) We are going to use the Skinboat 2-part urethane coating for a nice translucent look. Will the rare-earth pigments work on polyester, or do we need to use acid-based pigments? Thanks in advance for Jeff's wisdom and the collective SOF hive-mind! Blessings, Mitch
Scott Pettigrew
I didn't use polyester, but can probably answer #3. The pigment is mixed in with the urethane, therefore if the urethane works on polyester, then the pigment will work.
Kudzu
I have not read about bledding fingers but if you follow my method for sewing on the skin it won't be a problem. I have a video(s) up showing how I sew on the skin. Use the thread to pull the skin tight and a dowel to pull the thread.
andy00
6 hours ago, Kudzu said: and a dowel to pull the thread. One little tweak that I found useful: use a small piece of wood with a rectangular cross section in lieu of a dowel (maybe 1/2" X 1"). It's easier to hold because it doesn't want to twist as much. Have fun!
