The way I hear it WD is on a road trip down to see Ellise and her boat project. ....if it were me...and those cleat bases weren't committed to...I would move them aft. At least past where the cockpit starts...or ends...and where the laz bulkhead is. That way they don't interfer with 'becket' type use when someone wants to sit back. As for bronze vs. plastic....I am a luthier not one of those independantly wealthy fire dudes...I go for free or cheap. (but that's just me) Let's not get carried away here.

Those hatch stays are available in SS...and I would not be surprised, in bronze as well. But for a cheap guy like you........I dunno I was thinking more along the lines of a 10 cent bungy cord to the forestay. Now THATS cheap.

Funny you should say that Jo. A person always gets an image in thier mind of what some of these forum characters look like. For me...I see Jake as this extremely hyper, nervous sort where his eyes never stop bouncing around in his head. You know, like,"whatdoIdonext!!!!!!?"......."wheredoIgonow!!!!!?"......"maybeIcandotwomaybethreemorethingsatthesametime!!!!!!! His hands always twitching....knee bouncing when he is sitting.... If my son was here I would get him to do a caracture for me then post it. I have a keen image in me minds eye....I do.

The two aft cleats are very hand for tieing off the tiller, and I have rigged a way (with lines) to steer when I am sitting forward whilst motoring. I sometimes use this system when it is cold as well. I sit inside the cabin with my head out the hatch and steer with the ropes. Whenever I can...I like to freakout other boats by tucking right down inside so it looks like nobody is aboard. Fore hatch. I don't know what you plan on using for hinges...but the guy that built my boat used plane old cabinet door butt hinges. The hatch would never open past 90 degrees. (to the deck...) Drove me nutty. I picked up some real hatch hinges and will install them along with a new hatch....ah, soon. Hinges will be on the forward end no doubt...as they have been. I don't, personally, see an advantage to the other way...now 'to the side' could be cool, as long as the hatch clears the forestay. For some reason, I always seem to approach the foredeck from the same side. In my case, the port side...which makes no sense (which would mean I am consistant) becuase my motor is on the port side.....whatever. Could be handy...maybe not. One way or the other, a way to keep the darn thing open is important in my eyes. I have fussed with the anchor and rode whilst holding open that stupid thing too many times....plus the previous owner/builder did not radius any edges...so when that thing bites you it hurts. It's the little things that make a boat, any boat, grand.

Thats what I did...I marked the boat with a pocket knife while she was in the water. Oddly enough...the for and aft points seem to land right at natural 'points of the hull. Easy enough to remember. These boats are so light and so differently set up load-wise, I am sure every one will have an different water line. If it helps you, I can post something that will show you where my water line is.

I just saw the original thread on WBF of Wild Dingo and hoon(s) going on walkabout. What a madhouse. Oyster...does he know about your car offer yet? That may make a huge difference to his plans. The response is amazing...A Royal Visit....too flaming roit Mate.

BTW...It would be a full days drive (8 plus) hours from Calgary to Grand Forks. So it is a natural stop over point if you are going to Vancouver...which would be another 6 hours from Grand Forks. The drive from Calgary is wonderful. 3 hours of dead straight almost flat prairie highway, then once you get out of the foot hills into the Rockies you get to cross three major mountain passes on your way to the coast. There are some very grand sites to see. This region must be nice enough, the area is filled with tour buses filled with all manner of foreigners all summer long...I think most of them are Australians Actually...now that I think of it, you are going to be so close that I now insist that we make a plan to at least have a beer or coffee...even if we have to scoot over to Kelowna while you are there

Well Shane. I am right in the center of that little track meet triangle of yours. In fact, if you are driving between, say, Calgary and Vancouver...the fastest route will take you 2 blocks from my place. Get out your little map there. From Calgary, head south on Hwy 2 to Fort MacLoud...turn right on Hwy 3...just keep going for 5 hours or so and you go right through grand Forks on your way to Vancouver. It is a beautiful drive. Kelowna is exactly 2 1/2 hours from here. A gorgious place, huge lake and hot. We have a guest suite and would be tickled pink if wanted to hang here for a spell. Week days/ week ends, does not matter. It would be fun to have you and your daughter visit. Hell, I will even take you sailing if you like. I sail in one of the most beautiful lakes in all of Canada. I know you will be getting a lot of invitations, just keep old Tim in mind.... and if it works out...it works out

We cancelled our cablevision 6 months ago and could not be happier. Daphne hooks the rabbit ears up to the tv for saturday night hockey games games. We rent movies now and again. TV has always driven me nuts.....I just had to wait until my partner felt the same.

The only way that story could have been improved on would have been the addition of images! Us canucks will be telling tall tales soon as well.

Gascoyne I can find...the river. I expect the junction might not be too far away. My atlas does not do WA very well. Near Shark Bay? How about in relation to Carnarvon. Either way....your old stompin grounds look to be about 800 miles north of where you are now. Interesting. I love to travel with my Atlas and the net. Saves on plane tickets. I really does sound like paradice where you are Shane. That estuary sounds heavenly...but....when I go exploring and gunkholing in my area, and I set up my nice little tent and camp at days end, I am not likely to get ripped asunder by an prehistoric Croc....maybe pestered by the odd bear. Bears I can deal with...Crocs and Alligators? Gives me the willys just thinking about it. It's the eyes...those creepy eyes....and maybe those teeth a little too. Do you have those critters around there? I was wondering...if you don't mind....what do you do for work?

You are obviously a very talented chap with lots skills in all kinds of areas (NOT spelling or composition!!)...plus if you are a Fireman guy now, then you have the big fancy house, cars, investments, vacations, and $800 worth of lathe tools... etc etc. Liquidate. Downsize. Drop OUT!! FREE YOURSELF...Fly little Grasshopper FLY!! Buy a little house with a shop and a pickup truck (to tow the Weekender Furniture Boat to the pond). Sell all that other crap, cancel the cable and have a life....dude. Just a thought.
