P no idea why its happening seems I cant get many pics to show period (I get an occasional one but only occasionally) Ive tried the methods stated in other threads but nothing seems to work yet anywhere else no problems just seems to be me an this site I do have to copy and paste most pics to get them ala the cradle above... here it just doesnt appear open another page insert the copy and whallah there it is Greg I recall the same cradle lovely sweet thing not boxy or a quicky at all sorta along the lines of a small carvel planked dinghy (skiff) type with broad form through the middle for the babe... lovely... I thought it was Chad Smith from Chattanooga but I could be wrong and it may have been Jake or Charlie Jones but it definantly was SOMEONE! Ive never found any plans anywhere... and thats me conundrum but Im about to resolve it and go cut some wood!! Sorta shape it as I go that sorta thing and since its for a tiny tacker and will never go in the water it doesnt have to be boat lines perfect just a close rendition

Well done fellas! I as yet havent been game enought to make chairs will do in the next few years As for cradles well... I have been ordered "MAKE ONE BEFORE CHRISSY" as our 3rd daughter and her partner are expecting our first grandnipper just after... but see the daughter has demanded I make it "like a boat dada" scarey stuff mmm... so do I make it carvel? traditional plank on frame? play lapstrake strip planked or what? and what rig should it have? schooner rigged lug or just a plain ol fashioned gaff... and do I make it along the lines of a canoe? a schooner? a whacketty dak Aussie 2 fin keel an all? or maybe Im on the wrong track altogether! an they want an outboard job so how do I make that!!! or maybe the old timey fishin boat style?... strewth why cant these flamin sheilas just say "Dada make me a canoe shaped cradle for the new nipperkins will you please" instead of openin up a mind bending array of design choices eh? flamin hoonberries As for other things... Ive made a few things namely a Jarrah dining table 2 coffee tables first was a solid sheoak one beautiful colors... the second a Tuart (mustard coloring) Jarrah (deep red) and Sheoak (golden flame honey colored with a lacey textured grain) one stunning color cordination for a color blind fella also made a couple of clocks for Chrissy pressys last year using Banksia Jarrah Sheoak Messmate and Tuart and a lovely wee jewelery box for my 3rd daugters engagement out of all the above and a microwave oven stand... I have orders from family for a matching pair of Marri lampstands an Jarrah artists easel an self designed crafters centre for chrissy... but as yet no shed so theyre on the back burner till it arrives heres a couple of pics (note to self... strewth I hope this works) One of my favorite photos best Ive taken I reckon my first mallet complete with block plane chisel and shavings! The sheoak coffee table and in spite of Frank!! a half model to keep it maritime mmmm nope didnt work cant see a bloody thing other than the but then Ive been having massive probs seein pics here for awhile now cant even see the smilies and yep cookies are acceptable to me... ah well a tad of copy an paste eh?!

Buggar! 5 days an a keel down already? man Im bein slack... and I thought I was goin at a crackin pace too sigh... ah well I will step it up a pace when the new ubeaut shed goes up and I got enough power to run the monster machines!! And mate savin 700 a month is nothin to sneeze about! :cool: Funny years back someone said "boatbuilding is ALL about compromises" and its just so isnt it... whilst Id love nothing more than to build a traditional 28ft Schooner designed by Murray Peterson or a 38ft Wharram Tiki double canoe compromise set in and well for now the weekender valgerda and canoes will suffice.. and may well be enough! :eek: Ive been increadibly lucky in that the house we bought after the nightmares with the one we built and experiencing the flood and loss of so much... that we are able to now look back and say okay that happened were all safe and well and start again.... Im also bloody lucky to have bought a place with a flamin great airbus hanger in the back yard where I can store mega cubes of timber in the raw and in planks in a town where I can set up my tools without fear of them walking... Im also flamin lucky to have a missus who puts up with my predilicshuns and wanderings ramblings and dreams without an argument or quibble Im a lucky fella no too worries about that... and now Ive begun the boatbuilding process that Ive hungered for and dreamed of for so long life is for me at least absolutely brilliant... yes theres the usual life events dramas and difficulties that we all go through but all in all life is good damn! I gotta get this sawdust outta me nose eyes ears gob an wherever!!! Man I would be a real problem child if I was into welding wouldnt I?? :eek: Thankfully I tried that and got over it real quick now wood is good boats better and I smile cause the suns out and warm finally!!

I recognized this wee problem Charlie when I first started looking at the weekender and her sisters... but Ive had this on again off again boatlust affair with Atkins Valgerda (a norse design) for some time now and in my second to next series of pics I plan to be showing the start of her keel going together which will be of Malaysian Kapur (read bloody heavy 6x4 timber!) What my intention is is to have both boats ready for planking (ie: installing hull plys) by the time the new shed is up and the tools are set up... if this is to come off as planned I need to get them done in the next 3 weeks... fortunately for the hoonberrys I already have the canoe building forms up and the moulds in place in the humpy hoochy you see in the background all that needs be done for them to start taking shape is for me to sort out enough room in there to cut and rout the strips from the Maranti boards in there and to start whackin them on! so you see they will have the canoes to muck about in over the summer while we progress with these two sail boats :cool: Oooh I think I must also add that these will be of the "workboat" type and not show ponies! So Im not planning on being overtly flash with fancy googas and such just good honest boats tuff enough to take the mob of galahs and probably half the friggin neighborhood thats made of gods own wood and my wee hands Actually Mike I take much of my motivation and inspiration from your own good self mate Cheers! :cool:

Okay so today sunrise appeared at 5.30am air crisp and clear not a cloud to be seen anywhere... so I figured its about time to make a start... but as always life got in the way first possumpoop decided she was heading to Perth with Bethany for the weekend leaving me with the hoonmonsters... so okay adjusted my thought patterns a tad and the morning went reasonably well until eldest daughter Yazmynn decided it was time Dad and her went to town "shopping" mmm not something Im known to do unless its for tools timber or such... but decided okay why not a morning with her highness number 2 and then into it after lunch... so I get back at 12 and start sorting timber out... So Im busy sortin 6mtr lengths of Malaysian Sepiture for my keel... and I get a phone call... sorta expected somethin eh? so its the young blood Aaron who had finished work early and wanted a lift home... okay no worries off I go collect him and back... so I head straight back set up the old small thicknesser on the old dining table and get out the circular saw and start cutting to the 3x 14ft lengths for the keel along with the 2 x 6ft lengths 1x 8ft length for the stem and the 3ft length for the rudder... no worries Im happy So I start thicknessing the timbers from 1 1/4in to 1in... will check this as I seem to recall it being taken down to 3/4in but will check later no sweat Anyway I thought Id stick a few pics of ol twinkle toes at the thicknesser up to show you that Id actually got a start... and heck its the weekend so I gots lotsa time now by gar!! Twinkle toes strikes!! gawd Fred Astaire has nothin on the dingo makin sawdust So the journey begins :cool:

Now Im just throwin wild thoughts out here... been done before and will happen again so get used to it eh! So I was lookin at that wee boat young Oyster Mike is building with its round stern and that got me thinkin about BB Crowninshields Fame and Dark Harbor and their nice long counter sterns and wondered what if?? What if we wanted to put a counter stern on a weekender? Whatcha reckon??

Was wondering the same thing Craig... that stern is a real feature eh!... mmmm gots me ming workin here... now if one were to be really adventurous ones ming starts to wonder just how would that stern would look on the weekender? could it be done? what about if one were to lift it a tad and make it a nice wee counter stern how would that look on a weekender? Thanks to all for their kind imput... including the silent one :cool: It will be good to be able to get a start thats for sure Ive now got all the timber ply and other gear I need to at least begin still in need of a few things like fibreglass and epoxy but thats not about to stop me begining oh and Im also in need of a shed but am working on resolving that one As for the mudpile... well I drove out to Kalgoorlie and back on Sunday (round trip of 1400klicks uggh am I buggared!) arriving back midday Monday and then had to drive down to Bunbury and back for one future son-in-laws medical needs while another was taken to hospital with several urgent problems but neither of these affected the mudpile which was pretty much cleaned up... insurance is a whole other mess of problems were still dealing with :mad: what has made the mudpile the mudpile once again is that it rained cats and dogs for 12 hours while I was away the creek turned into a raging river again but luckily was a foot below the house this time simply washed everything below that downriver and up against the railways undersized culverts that are the main cause of the problems... half our backfill has disappeared along with two piles of bricks the bridge (railway sleepers and timber pilons) over the creek is now on the other side of the creek and nowhere near it and the one on another blokes property up steam is now on our side of the road culvert smashed to bits... actually thats not so bad come to think on it as Ive now got his bridge timbers and our own that we can sorta maybe salvage and make something else from eh!! Bloody interesting times I can tell you!! But otherwise mates an matesses alls well at the mudpile... well other than the two sons-in-laws to be medical issues and havin a daughter who has not a bloody clue as to what she wants or intends to do with her life... As we Aussies tend to say... "its all good mate" Im now looking at considering a houseboat to just moor down there at the creek... you know just in case? belts down with rain floods the house we move into the houseboat an just go with the flow downriver eh! Gidday all Well after the great washout of May 18 I contacted Stevensons through their site (30/7/05) regarding trying to find out if they could do something for me considering Id lost both sets of plans for the Vacationer and the Pocket cruiser that Id only recieved a week before the washout happened... nothing... no response... narda So again I contacted them (5/9/05 2 months later) after arguing with myself and debating if I should buy the plans or not then going ahead and paying for the Weekender plans online through paypal... again nothing! narda nothing So now here it is the 9 September yeah 4 days later and still nothing from them! What gives anyone know? I mean I dont expect a long winded email but just maybe some sort of recognition... "hey good on you sonshine well done your plans are in the mail thanks for your business"... you know something!! I mean this is the third set of plans Ive bought from them and will if these arrive only have one set to build from... That the plans dont cost a great deal is right and appreciated but surely some sort of recognition for their customers is worth the effort?... or maybe its bein an international that it doesnt mean anything nowadays to this mob? nah thats gotta be wrong they were pretty good the first time round but then I did buy 2 sets from them and then with my first email this time I was trying to see if I could perhaps appeal to them to reduce the price of both sets so I could replace the ones Id lost (even woodenboat sent me a response and gave me at least that) but this time Im buying again no questions no nothing just buying the weekender this time I cant afford to buy the other two again as weve got so much else to replace Ive been given the go ahead to buy 2 sets of plans a set of small reletively easy build ones and one for the major build... so anyway Ive gone down to the weekender instead... surely a response from them wouldnt be too much to expect? When I bought the first 2 sets I emailed them from their site email that is mail@stevproj.com and got a response pretty slick the last two times complete and utter silence Any ideas whats going on Frank? The loss of Granpaw Norm has been a heck of a blow felt even way downunder in Western Australia. Norm was one of the best fellas, ages ago when I was totally and utterly confuse and bewildered by the plethoria of boat designs around he quietly sent me a email asking for my address as he had a small gift for me, a matter of a few short days later a small package turned up return senders name Norm Messinger of Omaha Nebraska USA I couldnt believe it! Opening the package up showed the photocopied plans for the 6 hour canoe that was in Woodenboat some time ago with some small hand written notes attached and the very short cover letter saying "Hi Shane heres the plans for the 6 hour canoe maybe you can start your boat building with this easy one then build one each for the hoons and some for the grand neighbors" after many days of procrastination and arguin with myself I got stuck in and built the thing! Granpaw made a simple comment in his respond to my thread "Well done grasshopper now make some more" A quiet unassuming gentleman with a wonderful wife and family I wish I could have met in person, quite encouragement from afar offer of trust in abilities unknown and the sort of fella anyone would be proud to have known Valle Norm Messinger may your journey to Valhalla be smooth and fair

Why not bilge boards?... you know those wee boards off eather side of the keel that the brits tend to have when they stand their boats on the mud?... I was thinkin a pair of them instead of the offset centreboard would be best no? As some of yous know for a long long time I was deep in boatlust with Murray Petersons Coaster Schooner design... then I got somethin in me shorts or maybe it was just the missus givin me an earfull :roll: and I sorta figured that maybe Im gettin a bit long in the toofs to be thinkin of a bloody great 50ft schooner :shock: then I saw Susan.... ahhh 28ft of georgelishus wooden boat... will I build Susan? Damned if I know! But the plans mates the ruddy plans!! 40 sheets of drawins for crickeys sake!!! I just gotta ave them by gar!... and who knows with that bloody great Nissan/Quonset hut type thingy out the back maybe just maybe she will let me loose to have a go at it Now Stevensons wee Vacationer and Pocket cruiser... so I hear yer ask whats a fella who wants to build a traditional plank on frame whoppin great schooner want with a couple of wee ply bung em together things? well mates I want to go sailin!! Simple... and that flamin Kiwi reprobate John B up there is refusin to budge Waione from New Zeedlands rugged shores and send her to me to play with :sad: so I gots ta do what I gots ta do!! :twisted: Susan if she happens is a LONG LONG term project whereas Im seeing either one of these two as more a shorter term project and then when things get over the top at Kaos Kingdom or whatever I can just hook the trailer with boat attached and buggar off to the water for a few hours of sailin fun... blow out the cobwebs chuck of the stress an worry and then when Im all calm an together again get stuck in once more! HeY!! Did I tell yer that me wonderous wee wench the majikally gorgeous possumpoop has decided that she wants ANOTHER house?? :eek: yep not bein satisfied with the new house we have JUST bought she wants to buy a flamin KIT HOUSE and do it up ourselves ... yes I had screaming screachin terrorisn thoughts of the to do list goin through to the next milllenium and me never gettin to build me a boat... BUT! She in her wonderousness has gratiously given her permission for me to build a boat "if you must" AND mates I FLAMIN WELL MUST!! 8) Well I will!... stop yer flamin laughin yer pack o drongos!!!
