They are both decals printed on my laser printer. I put varnish over them after they were applied and dried.

Ward, you can always add a decal to you boat. I did on mine with Jeff's permission. Woodman's would look nice also.

I'd like to know how Jeff came up with that silly name in ght first place - Kudzu. I thought it was a intrusive vine that is plagueing the south!

Even when making a lamenated coaming, the lip is not more much more than 1/8th. Coarse you can make it wider if you want. I've made another lamenated one to my next build and I made the lip wider than I did on the first one and I lowered each layer as I went around a bit so I could make the top more rounded over. I also added a few extra pieces on the front of the lip so it is wider at the front than the rest. Just having some fun.

Sorry. I can't answer the question on a plywood coaming. I just wanted to say, I've only built one kayak, a Curlew, and I did the lamenated coaming. Following the book instructions, and watching videos on Jeff's site, and a couple youtube videos on wood bending, I found it remarkible easy to make the lamenated one. Only had to buy a heatgun got a cheap one and had at it. I've already made a second one now for my next kayak. It was even easier. The second one I prebent the wood. Wet it bend it in place and clamped it and let it dry that way for a few days. Them went back and glued it. Worked great for my.

I like the look. I'd often thought I like to build the Baidarka, but sewing around that front piece is pretty intimidating to me.

Looks like they are having fun even in their "plastic" boats.

I'm really liking this one. She is a beauty. Paddles are great also. Can't wait until fall so I can get back to building.

I covered mine with boiled lenseed, a couple liberal coats after it was all lashed together. Next one I well be tempted to cover the top of the floorboards with ZAR varnish just to make it easier to clean/get rid of footprints.

Instead of a cheap low end saw, I look for a used better one. Just my opinion.

That is a sweet looking canoe! Some very nice looking whip stetching. I'm thinking the leaking on the stetching may be because you used (at least it looks like) sinew for the thread and it is bigger thread and leaves a bigger hole to be filled. The stitching is the only place I had a leak and I had to add a couple more coats. But, I well use it on the next kayak also and just plan on a little more varnish there. Great job on you build.

Well, Martin, I'm afraid I cannot answer your question, being I am a novice having built only one kayak, the Curlew, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum. I can say that Jeff's boats are very fun and reasonable easy to build. I am sure that some of the more experienced builders, including Jeff well bounce in here soon with helpful answers. So welcome and if you decide to build one, please keep us posted on you progress, and include lots of pictures, we love pictures.

Great pictures! Looks like so much fun. I'd have to drive several hours to get to that beautiful of a paddling area. I've got to come up with a way to carry my kayak other than having it stick out the back of my truck 7 feet! I'm curious, what do you carry your camera, binoculars, etc. in to keep them dry?

That does look nice. I like the the pointed stern also. It is the only place on the curlew that I thought would look better if it was pointed instead of rounded.

That's probably because they are getting more scarce all the time. For some reason in our area there are lots of old goats that have the hot rod they dreamed about when they were young. I see lots of the older chevys, plus old Buicks, and such, lots of 4 door hot rods showing up also. This week-end is Cool Desert Nights event in the near town. Hundreds of hot rods and custom cars, tonight's Hogs and Dogs. Over 2000 motorcycles gather. It's all pretty cool event.
