All of us have been right where you are now. Waiting for plans for one boat or another. So to help while away the wait let us know something about you and what motivated you to order plans for a Weekender. Where are you located and have you had any prior experience with boatbuilding? You will find that their is a very good group of contributors to this forum and that there are a lot of different opinions and experience levels represented here as well. From those that want to build someday to those that have boatbuilding in their blood and just don't want to do anything else. One thing we all have in common is a love for the sheer act of creating something out of raw materials. How we accomplish that is an ongoing discussion and contribution of viewpoints that have to do with almost anything you are going to run into. We all seem to agree that we can also disagree and not get into a fight about it. So jump right in and get your feet wet. Your host Frank Hagen runs a very good forum and provides us with a great way to get information and exchange it between individuals without a lot of hassle from advertising or outside influences. I for one wouldn't participate in a forum until I discovered this one, too much politics and petty infighting and organizing. But they are all good people. Here I have found that even off the wall questions are taken with a grin and an appropriate answer. So Welcome to the group. Quote
Andrew Posted April 29, 2003 Author Posted April 29, 2003 Thanx I hail from Canberra in Australia I ‘found’ the StevProj website by accident when I was looking into plywood for building an aeroplane (I’ve never built much, does anyone remember Homer Simpson’s spice rack – that’s me). I figured that if something fails on a plane I’m done for – but on a boat, with less ‘regulations’ to follow HEY I can swim. So from then on it was just a question of which boat. 3 things decided me on the weekender 1) finding the StevProj site as the first boat site (I call it fate) 2) The lines of the boat – very sexy in a classic sort of way 3) Frank Hagans site (Thanx Frank) – this site surely cemented the idea in my head that I could achieve what no-one else in my family has even dreamed of and I could do it just for ME 4) Cost I realise this is more than 3 (Monty Pythons Spanish inquisition scene goes in here) but I guess deep down inside number 4 is a consideration for us all! And again I must thank Frank and all you ‘old salts’, I’ve been browsing the forum for about 2 months – learning from the ‘pros’ and finally thought – bugger it, its time I let them know there’s another wannabe Capt’n Hook out there.
