Chris Potts Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 I was on the wooden boat forum looking at some slightly older post when I can across a link to this website Blue Lightning. It seems that his claims about the speed of the boat are almost to crazy. Of course I don't really have any sailing experience, but from what I have read the numbers seemed seriously impressive. I just thought that you guys might have some opinions about the boat. The design is a little to modern looking for my liking. But if it was really as fast as he claims I would still be pretty tempted to build one. Quote
MikeStevenson Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 We don't claim any speeds for our boats for the very reason that over the decades we've been boating, almost all boat-speed claims seem insanely high. A standard joke is "...over a waterfall!" or "...of a bridge!" or similar. I'd reccomend taking any speed claims with several grains of salt; maybe a whole spoonfull. Mike Quote

Craig Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Nice looking form, but it would never see 20 kts. I think with that hull and skeg he would be lucky to see 6.5 in a real blow. Remember the drag goes up with the speed. As Ray says, it will not plane and the keel will not go away. Wishful thinking that 20 claim. Quote

Sailor3356 Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Ok the pictures are cool and at Force 5 the wind is blowing 10 mph ok I can see that. And the waves can be up to 4 foot, I would say his are between 2 and 3 so that fits. The boat is making a port turn by looking at the wake so it is possible that he could make the 20 knots or 10 mph in a strong gust, but maintaining it would be hard. :shock: It could happen, but I was not there so, hay why not. 8) Quote
