Paint

Hi Every one,

Soon I will be painting my Firefly. I will skin it with polyester. I do not know much about paints so I am hoping some one can give me some pointers on what kind of paint would be a good choice.

That's easy, oil based porch and deck enamel works good and is reasonable in price. I used a water based paint on one and I will not use it again. To soft and harder to work with. You could use a good marine paint but it is really not necessary. I find it takes 3 coats to will all the tiny pinholes unless I spray it. Then I can get by with two coats.

While I am thinking of it, one of the things I don't show in my video is skinning a Baidarka. You can follow the instructions with one minor difference. I tell you start at the cockpit and sew toward the ends. At the bow you want to stop 5-6" (more or less) from the bow. Then start sewing from the bottom and work around the bow. If you just keep going when you start to sew the bifid bow you will run out of fabric. If you mess up just pull out the thread, massage the fabric to fix the holes and start over.

Also, I have a video on painting too. I would like to redo it someday but maybe it will help you out a little.
