putting on deck

I'm getting the fever to work on my minicup again.  I'm to the point of putting the deck on.  The underside of the deck will be un-accessible once put on.  I want to coat it (the underside) with epoxy.  Maybe a couple coats.  Than after it is cured, I will sand the areas that will need to be screwed and glued to the sides and inter-structure.  When I screw the deck down I will coat all mating area with epoxy silicon mix.  Will that work?  (I sure hope this thing doesn't dry rot before I get it finished!!  I hope I live ling enough!!

I would coat with a minimum of 3 coats.  I wouldn't put silicone on a boat, no way no how!  Thickened epoxy is all you need.  I rarely use silicone for anything anymore.  Maybe in the bathroom or kitchen.

I guess I should ask for clarification, are you referring to silicone sealer?  Or is it to an epoxy thickening agent of some sort (though I haven't heard of a silicon based thickening agent)?

Yeah- the silica will work great.

Jake- I abhor silicone on a boat also- nasty stuff.

Ok, you can see how long it has been since I worked on the boat.  You are all correct it is fumed silica I have.
