He makes so little on the plans that I consider it a moral obligation to buy from B&B when they are even marginally competitive. Graham is very supportive of our calls and questions for the pittance a set of plans sells for. I will, however, buy 5200 from Wal Mart since the difference is so much from marine dealers. So loyalty is only so deep. Quote

After recent info I'm close to make wood masts, however they are usually one piece. My goal is is to make them able to be broken down into three pieces for easier stowage. May I ask for tips how to make responsible joints, please? We still have carbon masts to discuss. Quote

I've decided to build wooden masts aswell, mostly due to the difficulties of finding the right aluminium qualities, but also a wooden mast on a wooden boat - it just can't be wrong, can it? I'm planning on doing the masts hollow for a halyard and to incorporate a groove (in wood) for a boltrope sail to slide into the mast. The sails will be of slab-reef type but have vertical battens for making it possible to store the sails wrapped around the masts. So far this is my plan, I hope it will work... As for the 3-piece mast this means you will have a slip-on sail and then you have the reefing thing to consider (easy reef - bad performance) and I recall someone stating that having multi-piece masts only meant that you have more pieces to look after... btw I'm building a CS-17 (just glassed the hull) in Sweden, and the raid in Finland does look interesting! best of luck with your decisions/build! /rune Quote

This is my attempt at dealing with a sleek wooden boat. She could use a little more ballast in the keel and a little wider beam for my butt. Its harder than it looks. Coming back to a mizzen mast hanging over crew heads, there' one more advantage: one can make a tent and get an open space cabin on full cockpit length. Quote
